    From local media source
A Garda and three nightclub bouncers were stabbed when a man went berserk outside a Letterkenny nightclub.

The incident took place in the early hours of this morning outside Voodoo Nightclub.

It is believed a man was refused entry to the nightclub and began to cause a disturbance.

Gardai were called and the man then produced a knife.

A Garda was stabbed in the arm while another bouncer was treated for a stab wound to the leg.

It is not believed any of their injuries are life-threatening.

A Garda spokesman confirmed four people including a Garda were stabbed.

The stabbing frenzy took place as hundreds of people socialised on the streets of the town during the Letterkenny Live Festival.

Earlier in the evening musician Ryan Sheridan has entertained hundreds of people on the town’s Oliver Plunkett Road as part of the festival.

The night had passed off without any major incidents as Gardai patrolled the streets.

Gardai confirmed a many as arrested and was being questioned at Letterkenny Garda station.

The Mayor of Letterkenny, Cllr Gerry McMonagle, who opened the festival, told Donegaldaily.com he would not like the wrong image of the event to go out.

“The festival was a wonderful success and I had appealed to people to enjoy themselves without drinking too much.

“However that message is never going to get through to some individuals.

“I sincerely hope that the Garda and the bouncers are okay and this should never have happened when all they were doing was their jobs,” he said.

Was it a stanley knife or a 9" dagger? It kinda makes a big difference!

He must have went bat**** crazy to injured four, and I assume trained in self-defence, people.

    What was his name?
When he's been charged, brought to the court and his name posted in the media he can be named here and not before it.

agree with the first part but you dont need much traning to lash out with a knive against unarmed people

3 already released and the Garda was stabbed in the hand, so not too serious by the sounds of things.

Just a reminder that although a man has been charged in connection with the incident he has not been convicted so be careful what you post here please.

The bar is still known as Voodoo!

The man is in court today in Mullingar:

The Garda needed surgery on his hand, that is why he is still in hospital.

Just to point out that we (mods) are under strict orders from the site owners to ensure that there is nothing posted that could leave Boards.ie Ltd. open to litigation.

Apart from all that there is a more serious implication in my opinion. Comments posted here are the same as comments printed in a newspaper and when this guy would eventually go on trial his defense team could point to those comments and claim that the jury may be influenced and that he wouldn't get a fair trial. I dont think any of us would want to see that.

Just have a wee think please before you post.

    @ Muffler

Just for my own info, what is the difference legally between the guy being named on here, and being named on the RTE News website?

Because he has been named on the latter.

Thats pretty much the issue here - what's legal and what's not. Im not a solicitor so cant give you a definitive answer Im afraid.

In my opinion RTE as a broadcaster are fully entitled to give his name as are other sections of the media but bear in mind that this (Donegal forum) is a discussion forum and not a media outlet. So I dont see that there's anything to be gained at all by posting the name here. By all means fire up a link to some site or blog where he has been named.

As stated above I am concerned that certain things could be posted here that could possibly have a knock on effect.

    Thanks for that.

ust wanted to know the difference, as I once called a famous figure a crook and got reprimanded for it on another Irish forum.

I'm sure that no-one on here wants to end up in court like the guy in Derry recently when he said that a politician should get a bullet. Loose talk can be dangerous.

The penalty for that here would be much more severe. :)

I must say i have found LK a very safe town to enjoy a night out in and i think the bouncers of all the establishments in LK should be commended they do a great job without being intrusive and over strict like other towns and cities, i hope this incident doesn't change that or damage the future of the Letterkenny Live Festival which by all accounts was a great success!

I hear dude was released on bail, unbelievable

Id imagine hes been bailed on conditions,
sign on with a local garda station, upcoming hearing to face criminal charges, etc.

i doubt that he's off yet

I know hes not got away with anything, my point is that the alleged charges are very serious more than normal given that a garda was stabbed, dont seem right to me

I wouldn't say he's in great shape after stabbing a Garda and then getting arrested...

Completely baseless and unsubstantiated allegations. Warning given.

Always hateful to see a police officer assaulted or injured when doing his job, there is something about knife crime , the effort taken to slash or plunge a knife into another human being.
Hope all injured make a quick and complete recovery.
