    Hi,
A strange one that just passed by ...
Company A ,supported by a good (i pressume) IT Engineer is asking for a third point of view of it's internal IT infrastructure health.

The 3rd person arrives on-site,runs a full check for few hours then tries same check from outside network and then creates a report with findings then recomendations and steps to follow to fix/upgrade/patch and so on...

Company A sends report to current IT support and asks for comments on the report from 3rd person !

    Is that ... normal !??

Sounds like Company A doesn't like there own IT Engineer and are looking for grounds to fire him. I don't see any other reason to do it.

The only time we would hire in outside engineers is when everything is gone very bad and its something thats Not Normal. In which case we have asked to have someone come in.

Did the local IT guy know you were coming in?
Possibly, the IT guy was looking for a raise and it was a case of having someone to sign off that his work was up to scratch...

(I'm not including Security Engineers because well they are very specialised and most companies wouldn't have them on staff ever)
