Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

First time mountain biker!

I've recently got a chance to have a couple of go's down the built trail in 3 rock on a friend's mountain bike and absolutely loved it. I would like to get my own bike so that I can go anytime I like but it seems that they are pretty expensive. I don't want to invest too much into it at first, just in case.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that I'm 5'4" and a girl, it is difficult to find a second hand hardtail in my size (I put up an ad in the adverts section to no avail). A men's small (16") would probably be ok for me but I'd still probably suffer a bit on the reach.

Now here's where you guys come in, I've found this online and it looks like alright spec and gets a good review on Bike Radar. These Saracen bikes aren't that well known but I was wondering would it be grand to get me started and see how I get on? It's a 14" which I reckon would be a touch small but I've learned from cycling over the years that it's better a bit small than a bit big which may be the case with a 16".

Or do you reckon I would be better off buying something like the Sunn Travis off Chain Reaction? There's doesn't seem to be much between them in the specs.

    What do you reckon?

    I reckon......

.....actually I know you should go see Richie @ Eurocycles Long Mile road: www.eurocycles.ie/Contact_.aspx

He will give you expert advice on what size of bike would suit you best, no point in trying to guess yourself or ask on the internet...

He also runs ladies beginner spins: www.epicmtb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15080

Yeah I suppose I should but for the spec I've been recommended by friends who are into mountain biking I just can't afford to buy in Eurocycles... I either need to buy second hand or buy a new bike from last year's range that's discounted...

Just looking on a bit of advice over which bike to buy really...

Theres a nice bike on adverts that's good for starting off on, try it out for size, your better off with a small framed mens bike anyways....and GT is a good make..
