I finished The Stand by Stephen King last week. Was reading it for nearly a month and even at that I didn't want it to end! Definitely my favourite book of his so far.

Have Dracula downloaded to read next. I'm also thinking of getting The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, has anyone read it?

Just started reading "Pigeon English" in bed last night. About 40 pages in. It is different.

Trying to read all the Booker nominated novels.

EDIT: those on the short-list that is!!

just finished reading the Last Don by Mario Puzo, unbelievable story genuinely I was hooked to reading it till the end, if your a Godfather fan you will love this book. I just bought the Hunger Games, I have heard mixed opinions about it like that "its going to be the next twilight" or that "it is a book for both sexes". So it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Also if that book turns out sh*t I will by Omerta by Mario Puzo guaranteed to be another crime classic.

About to start We Need To Talk About Kevin. Finished Room last week, it was a brilliant read, but a bit tough going

Wow, how opinions vary! I was disappointed with Room, found it somewhat repetitive and in the end rather rushed, and yes couldn't help avoiding close similarities to the real life Fritzl case. I was surprised it made the Booker shortlist, but there you go.

Anyways glad you enjoyed it. Nothing like a great book!

Loved the Stand! One of his very best, but I always reckoned that Needful Things was his very best. Absolutely love that one!

Started "Eric" by Terry Pratchett last night, hilarious as per the standard.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Recently heard a radio interview about the real book and real author which made for a fascinating story and the basis for the TV ad.

About a third through and really enjoying it.Powers is a superb writer mixing fantasy, with real historical characters and events.Great stuff!.

Tim Powers is quite well thought of when it comes to writing fantasy and here's why. His books are meticulous pieces of subtle fantasy that blur the line between fiction and reality through perfect research and even better writing.

'The Stress Of Her Regard' is, to put it bluntly, a wonderful piece of modern writing, encompassing historical events, the great European cities of Rome and Venice, alcoholism, anti-religious stances and a brilliant use of vampires. However, this is isn't your silly wee angst filled, sexually frustrated vamps who prattle on about love and its consequences................

    I love that book.
Not only is it very imaginative in its vision of the next few billion years of humanity, it's quite inspirational too, as a testament to the human spirit. The final paragraph is wonderful and brought a lump to my throat.

Like a few others, I'm currently more than halfway through A Clash of Kings. It's just as great as A Game of Thrones, and I fear I'm going to find myself finished A Dance with Dragons quite soon and be left waiting for Book Six.
