I have only just discovered thriller writer, Alex Morwood.
Finished his 'The Darkest Secret' and I think it's the best thriller I've ever read.
Have already requested his other books from a bookstore.

Alex Marwood is a woman just to let you know. Her books are great.
I had pressed submit to my post when it hit me, that it may indeed be a woman, so thanks!
    I'm absolutely hooked.
I love Sophie Hannah and Liane Moriarty.
If you have any more tips for me ET, fire away!

Just finished Football for a Buck by Jeff Pearlman, all about the USFL, a rival to the NFL in the eighties, and the mad bastards that played in it, despite some teething problems it seemed to be doing well until a certain D.Trump bought one of the teams and pushed them to change from a spring schedule to a winter schedule (competing directly with the NFL) and sue the NFL for monopolising the sport, which they won but were awarded a dollar (hence the title) and that bankrupted the organisation.

Very entertaining read but with a undercurrent of sadness because it could still be running today if that orange idiot didn't stick his nose into it.

Forest Mage by Robin Hobb. It's the second in the Soldier Son trilogy. That trilogy gets "meh" reviews online but I did grow in to the first one.

It is one of her weakest series of books but I still like it.

    Trilogy ending spoilers:
I appreciated how long and meaty its epilogue was and how the protagonists journey was ended on a upbeat note which I felt was refreshing considering her main series of books can often consist of 'lets see how much misery we can put this character through'.

I'm rereading Blood Meridian by Cormac Mccarthy again. It gets better every time I read it. One of the most mesmerising books I've ever read.

I'm reading and enjoying this now, about 20% through it.

Chilling stuff. There's hours of footage of him being interviewed at different times by different people. Some he was more 'open' with than others.

    Total psychopath.

Under The Eye Of The Clock, by Christopher Nolan.
A unique story told in a beautiful way, one of the easiest books I've ever read.
    The words just flow together.

    I cannot recommend it enough.

Just finished Idaho. It's beautifully written but I'm a bit frustrated at the ending as a lot of questions remain that I thought might be answered.

I have to say I didn't enjoy it at all, for all the hype about it. I got around two thirds of the way through and then skim-read the rest, from what I can see I didn't miss much by doing so. One of those books that's just completely overrated!

I recently finished "A Princess of Mars" by Edgar Rice Burroughs, which was EPIC!

Then I watched John Carter and they butchered it. Terrible film.

Currently I am working through the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, Dark Force Rising which is Book 2.

I don't know why Disney didn't just film these books. It's so much better than the current crop of films.

Ok to quote Tars Tarkas from Princess of Mars

    "I am finished talking"

I'm rereading Porno by Irvine Welsh. I haven't read any of his books in a while and had forgotten how infectious the Edinburgh accent is. I have to stop myself from saying things like ken at the end of sentences sometimes!

I read those as a teenager. They're pretty good. I expect they were ditched partly because they would have had to recast a bunch of key people, primarily Luke, Leia and Han, and I guess they wanted the star power of the original actors for a hand off. That, and story these days seems to be driven by so much other than good storytelling, from the need to sell new toys to demographics targeting, to building around action set pieces. It's sad, really, to see what a dog's dinner they've made of the whole thing. But that's a whole other thread.

There's a bunch more books in the now disavowed Extended Universe. I haven't read most of them, and Zahn is probably the best regarded of the authors, but there's lots to explore. I had a lot of fun as a teenager reading Stackpole's X-wing books, though I don't think they really hold up as well - I dipped into one a few years ago and was disappointed with the quality of the writing.

Absolutely loved the Thrawn Trilogy, truly epic, better plot than the original trilogy.

The Handmaid's tale for me, but it's not very good.

Fun book. The coked up self-aggrandising internal monologues of Sickboy are hilarious.

Lab Rats: Why Modern Work Makes People Miserable

    Just finished
Monsieur X: The incredible story of the most audacious gambler in history by Jamie Reed
We need to weaken the mixture by Guy Martin
How to be a footballer by Peter Crouch

All were good. The Peter Crouch book is most amusing.
