I REALLY don't want my english teacher to see my paper 1 but want him to look at my paper 2.

Ha I really don't want anyone to see my paper one! :P :o

So (after looking through the previous posts) am I right in saying that I can't bring a relative in if I want my teacher to look at my scripts? And would most teachers not show up anyway if they could be there, especially on a Friday when they're already in school?

Lol.. I wrote some stuff in my essay I wouldn't even let my closest friends see. EVER :o

You can bring a relative but I dont think the three of you (you, relative and teacher) will be able to be there at the one time.

I wonder can teacher/relative wait ouside and then they switch places? Ah I'd say they can actually since I've asked 5 teachers to come to look at various papers?

No, the viewing isn't until 6pm on Friday, so they'll be at home tucking into their dinners

Ha that's the beauty of paper one... You write it knowing that only the examiner (or teacher) sees it. :D And then cringe at what you've written and hope no one else ever sees it... EVER!! :pac:

Yay, I only want the teachers looking at the papers! :P

I thought so, I bet I'll be the only one asking for a couple of them to come in. Awkward when they show up starved. :P

Was gonna view one script but have decided against it for 2 reasons.

    • The teacher I had for the year, replied to my invite to view the script, saying he'll give an opinion, it's entirely up to me to appeal. And he added "As I have never been involved in the process before" Honestly, who lets these people be teachers(he's been teaching the repeat LC's for years). Especially in a repeat college, specialising in the Leaving Cert and claiming to have the best teachers:confused:. Bit of a joke.
    • I have gotten a course I am happy with :) Thank god.

Yes they can, but maybe try and coordinate it so they're not all landing at 6 and hanging around for 1.5 hours

No, it's not a bit of a joke. He's being honest and you're being ungrateful, he hasn't corrected whatever subject you're viewing before. He might be a good teacher, but it doesn't mean he's corrected. It's not a requirement to get a job. Not everyone corrects. To be honest, if I was to give up my Friday evening to a student that had that attitude I'd be telling them where they could stick their paper.

He can go through the marking scheme and see where you went wrong, he can check if there is anywhere you might pick up a few marks. He can give his opinion as he said. He can't make the decision to appeal though, only you can do that, and even though he might think an answer might deserve more marks , you might not get those marks if they're not justified.

Maybe you should learn a bit more about how the system works before you start slagging off your teachers.

I know exactly how it works, inside and out, since I repeated the leaving cert this year.
I could get into an arguement about why it sounded different to me but we'd be here all night.

    So peace :P:P

    On a lighter note:
G'luck to everyone viewing and appealing. :)

Crap..they're all coming in at 9 I think.. oh well..

Just looked at the marking scheme for the French Aural and for the mushrooms question there was something like "do not accept smoking mushrooms" LOL

I'm sick after viewing my scripts today, got a b2 in business and was sure i deserved an A1 turns out i left out a whole question (60 marks)!!!! i have never done something like it before and its only now thinking back on it that i remember having a good few mins left which because i was wrecked (honours irish p2 in the mornin) i used it to check the bloody paper! dont know how i was so stupid on the day! its really annoyed me coz i knew the stuff inside out with missing a question i got 319/400 therefore i only dropped a few marks on what i did answer! (340) this stupid mistake cost me 20 points overall!!!!! luckily i have enough for my course but still :mad::mad::mad:

Surprised by my biology paper. There's a few discrepancies in the marking and I just barely got an A1 (361/400) but there's no point in appealing I suppose. My Business paper appears to have been marked by at least four people with each underlining sections of my paper and making annotations in different coloured ink. I think there's grounds for an appeal but considering I just barely got a B2 i'm still mulling over taking the risk. Contrary to what people on boards have said for the past few years, the Irish and French oral marks were written at the very top of my scripts, whether that was just my pair of examiners or a SEC-wide marking protocol I'm not too sure.

Also had a look at Engineering today. Pretty annoyed. I got 296/300 (99% :D) on the Theory paper and did an excellent practical/project and somehow only got an A2. With my theory as it is, I need at least 244 from both my practical and project to get an A1. Considering I had 130 written at the top of my paper (Which I assume came from my practical exam) that means I was awarded less than 114/150 for my project which seems absolutely insane considering the standard it's at. Definitely going to appeal.

Saw my scripts today, it was mental! (By mental I mean I did one A1 project and one B1 one, but nearly failed the actual exams in both subjects! I knew I almost failed, but looking at the difference between paper and project was crazy...) Wanted to see what I got in each part 'cause I'm repeating so it'll help to know what I need to work on.

French was marked very hard (easy paper), but my result was fair I guess (B2). That feckin' mushroom question though!! I thought I got it right, I said "they thought he was picking mushrooms", turns out they were doing the mushroom picking! Only lost two marks but still, probably would've gotten a mark or two if all I wrote down was "picking mushrooms". At least now I know I've loads of work to do this year, the old languages aren't as good as I thought. :o

I'm in the same boat as you, my business paper was a nightmare to read having been corrected several times with the last corrector giving me exactly 75%, however I think it should be at least a B1, is wierd. Dunno if I'll bother appealing though as there is some risk involved.

Wasn't on mine... :( I think the orals brought me up in both though, I thought the French one would've been what brought me down. And I thought my Irish one could've been better too but apparently it was my best! Iontach. :D

I had a look at History and English today.

    History
Got 100% in my project lol and did well enough in the Doc q. My Essays were terrible though, got in the 50's and 60's in the 3 :( I usually get 70+ and was quite disappointed with them. My paper had been marked in red and green and had been put up 3 precent by the advising examiner (I think they are called that). Still my teacher believed it was marked hard.

    English
Paper 1 was fine and was marked nicely according to my teacher. However the trouble was with Paper 2. My teacher was not impressed and believed I deserved a good deal more. He noticed the same scenario among other members of my class who went to recheck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 802 ✭✭✭Vodkat

    Im appealing 3 subjects

ENGLISH: Teacher felt I deserved a better mark.

BIOLOGY: My result was a C3 but when we looked at the script today I had gotten 60.25% which is actually a C2  Very annoyed about that! Filled out a AP1 form and Im getting rechecked also because there were other places throughout the paper where marks should have been added in and where they should have been awarded! My examiner was obviously very tired when my paper was being corrected. The teacher said she would not be suprised if I was to be brought up to a C1!! :D:D

HOME EC: Journal wasnt marked fairly, according to the teacher and also some marks not awarded when they should have been!

This is probably a stupid question but I was wondering if I appeal my music is the practical listened to again??...It's just a can't quite recall there being a tape recorder or anything in the room-then again I was such a nervous wreck and concentrating on my performance so much I wouldn't have noticed. I'd just like the A1... got an A2

  • Registered Users Posts: 574 ✭✭✭kate.m

    Still not happy after viewing...

Music: got an a2 overall but my composition was awful :(...got a C. Never before have I done so badly. listening was better at 84%.
I noticed the examiner made a few mistakes both in and against my favour and so I'm debating getting it checked. Also my composition had no corrections? And I thought was marked really hard. I've been playing music all my life and have grade 8 in theory and they gave my harmony a 39?!

French: the paper went great. 78/80 in aural, As in all my reactions and 55+ in both comprehensions yet I got an A2?! I asked a Teacher (not mine) and she said my oral must have gone badly? Someone worked out 69%? no idea what to think as I thought it went well.

Classical studies: painful. Wanted to smack teacher, learnt more from him today about the marking scheme than He ever explained. Btw I was a straight A student.

Also unhappy with English: teacher said not to bother rechecking but I was unhappy with paper 2 :( thought I deserved a way higher grade in comparative and poetry.

Biology: three coloured pens...no comment :)

My teachers are super, there was a retirement party for one of them so they all headed to that instead of to the school, even though they were asked to attend.

One teacher showed up fair play to him.

Anyway I'm appealing Irish, business and DCG. Felt I deserved better in all 3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 311 ✭✭Sir123

Firstly, looking at all those pink scripts is exhausting.

LCVP: I was 1% off a distinction. That's 4 marks. I needed those 20 points. My teacher said they probably should have given me more marks for the portfolio. I was gutted. I'm definitely getting it rechecked.

French: My teacher and I were surprised to see that the were a little bit generous when marking the aural. I'm leaving French as it is.

Irish: I thought I should have done better but my teacher said my Irish wasn't that great. Thought my oral went really well so I think I should just appeal it and hope for the best. All you can do is give it a shot. Hopefully it wont be downgraded. That would be devastating.

English: I was appalled. I don't even want to talk about it. I though it should have been better. I seemingly didn't answer all parts of the question. Maybe I was having a bad day. I know I'm much better than that at English and my result does not reflect my capability and my knowledge of the subject. I must have just had an off day.

How did you guys fair out? :)

OH MY GOD! :D In one of my subjects I most definitely got a B2 looking at the paper but was given an A2 on my results! Happy days! Crazy stuff...

English: 71.25% but my teacher said it was marked extremely unfairly. Appealing

    Irish: 86% grand

French: 87% but can't figure out what I got in the oral..

    Biology: 92%

Home Ec. 88%. Paper was an A1 standard but the project brought me down. They marked so so harshly on the project! Unreal..

  • Registered Users Posts: 311 ✭✭Sir123

I'm afraid to appeal English incase it gets downgraded. Just gonna leave it as it is. Still unhappy and I still think it's not my result. I'm devastated and upset.

I'm just appealing out of curiosity. What does esp or exp? mean in English when it's written in the margin? Some of my sentences/words were underlined and that was written beside it. Also, a few words were underlined and sp (spelling) was written beside them. However, the words were not spelled wrongly, maybe it was my writing?

Also, I got a good A1 in my French written and aural, yet I ended up with an A2. I calculated that I must have lost more than 20 marks in the oral. I was excellent at my French oral, although on the day we had a French examiner and she asked very unfair questions but I didnt think I had done that badly. The oral was supposed to be marked quite poorly by the examiner for the other students as well. I am unable to calculate my mark for the oral though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭ride-the-spiral

English: Got 353/400 and I wasn't too disappointed. My teacher thinks I could've been marked higher on some questions and I wasn't going to appeal but my mam has insisted.

Design and Communication graphics: Quite annoyed with it. The examiner seemed to not recognise the existence of my compass and on 3 questions I wasn't given marks for constructions which matched the marking scheme exactly. Definitely appealing as this will bring me up 3% or 4%, which could bring me up to the A1.

I hate the way they don't give you your marks for project work or orals. Seriously how hard can it be to just write it on the front cover of your written exam?

I asked my teacher this, he said it's short for expression. I think it's that the examiner thought you're sentences were too much of an expression, as my teacher put it "He likes it if you speak the Queen's." However he said a lot of the times that my sentences were underlined with "exp" were the examiner being pedantic. It didn't seem to detract from the overall grade too much though.

Just seen them, as expexted really...

    Irish

89.7%! . . .absolutely pissed, 2 marks short... they had the oral up in the top corner. . .

...Mind you, I still couldnt see where the other 2 marks might come from, but even still. . .

    Music

Barely 1% short of the A1, and so many correcting errors. . .marked very poorly for the melody composition, which was annoying tbh. . .and wrote an essay for Barry's use of Irish Melodies to get only half-marks. . .teacher was pretty certain I'll go up, but not certain I'll get the A1. . .appealing anyhows.. . .and will be on tenterhooks for the next month. . .

    French

268/300 for the written and aural, which was amazing, but Oral not listed... couldn't see much more than 3 marks in there, and even that was a stretch tbf. . .gonna leave it now, I'd say, save my €40. . .

  • Registered Users Posts: 223 ✭✭what.to.do

I'm getting my German rechecked, not that I think there is many errors in it..

Had a look at all my papers, managed to get 95.5% in English! Nearly dropped dead with shock when I saw 100 marks for my essay, and 200 marks for my paper two!

Hard work (and lots of reading!) really paid off!

I feel like I should also add that NEVER have I learned an essay off by heart. I write from my head, and learn quotes.

I'm 0.4% off a higher grade in Chemistry.

    Should I appeal?

I think they might find 2 MARKS somewhere even though the marking scheme was really specific as always.

    Thoughts/Advice??

Anyone else in a similar situation?

  • Registered Users Posts: 93 ✭✭jawn

I had a peek at music and as seems to be a common trend, it was marked horrifically. Especially the composition paper. I got 32/60 for what 2 music teachers in my school claimed was at least a B standard harmony composition. They marked correct bass notes wrong which is really frustrating, and annoying.

The listening paper seems to have been marked 100% by the marking scheme which isn't fair. Got 0/2 marks for some answers that although not word for word what was in the marking scheme, were correct. A 10/10 essay got 5.5 .....

I have my course, but for my own sanity I need to get pushed up from a B1 to an A2.

    Here's hoping.

That happened to me in maths. I'm 0.44% off a B. Was really pissed off when I saw it. My teacher said I should appeal because she said I might get that 2 marks somewhere else. I dunno. It's worth a shot. What grade are near? If it's near an A or B or then you should get it rechecked. My opinion anyways
