Garmin Nuvi 760 Problem

    Looking for a bit of advice guys,have'nt used my satnav for quite a while so the battery went dead.Needed it recently,tried charging it on the journey I needed it on,to no avail.It's stuck on the map update notice page/frozen,never updated my maps.It's several years old,well over the recommended one year map update!Tried to charge it via my laptop,but unlike my old laptop the device is'nt recognised,so I was unable to use the Garmin software I downloaded to upgrade my maps.I tried to restore the default settings to no avail.Does the firmware need to be upgraded.HELP!

    Try to reset it by holding the on button for more than 8 seconds.
