Its Friday so here's a quiz for you all to see how well you know your dogs. It's a tough one, but can you name any of the breeds below?
(Apologies mods if this is too pic heavy)

As the Thai Ridgeback is the only other dog with a ridge like the Rhodesian I was familiar with the breed. Very nice dog indeed.

    I promise I won't cheat so here's my guess.

    4- borzoi

    8- shiba inu

    Without googling...

    1. Can't name it, some type of hound
    2. Basenji
    3. Thai Ridgeback (I think)
    4. Borzoi
    5. APBT (?)
    6. Boerboel (I think BBs may be bigger, but this is some type of mastiff)
    7. Japanese Chin
    8. Can only say a type of spitz
    9. Affenpinscher
    10. Clumber Spaniel
    11. Eskimo Dog? Or Northern Inuit? Maybe 8 is one of these?
    12. Hmm, maybe this is the Boerboel
    13. Kelpie (not sure about this)
14.Pyrennaean Mountain Dog (excuse the spelling)
    15. Either an Estrela Mountain Dog or Anatolian Shepherd (probably wrong on both)

I love Basenjis (2), very interesting dogs. Did you know that because the gene pool was rather small, there is a project in America where Basenjis are located in small, remote villages in Africa (mostly DRC and Benin) to be brought to the US. A few of these recent imports have been registered with the AKC.

Just because they don't bark doesn't mean that they are quiet. Apparently they have quite a range of yodels and shrieks that can easily drive the neighbours mad:P

Im fairly sure number 9 is a wookie :)

Very interesting thread! I would have gotten very few right unless I googled! I am not well up on breeds outside the popular ones. All the spritz type dogs look the same to me! Lol.
Would you get most of these breeds in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,974 ✭✭✭Chris_Heilong

    16- shikoku
    17- Cane corso
    18- Dandie dinmont terrier
    19- Greenland dog
    20- Beauceron
    21- Sloughi
    22- Briard
    23- Ibizian hound
    24- Swedish Vallhund
    25- Azawakh
    26- German spitz mittle
    27- Sarplaninac
    28- Canadian eskimo dog
    29- Lowchen
    30- Eurasier

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Shanao

Here are the answers: I think the presa was the one that got people the most.

    16. Shikoku Inu
    17. Presa Canario
    18. Dandie Dinmont Terrier
    19. Greenland Dog
    20. Beauceron
    21. Sloughi
    22. Briard
    23. Podenco Ibicenco
    24. Tamaskan Dog
    25. Azawakh
    26. Volpino Italiano
    27. Saplaninac
    28. Canaan Dog
    29. Lowchen
    30. Eurasier

I think the Volpino was probably the annoying one there as there are so many spitz breeds that are rarely seen.

@Themadhouse- not a whole lot of them though some rare ones are becoming popular.

Stay tuned all, another fifteen will be up soon:D And after that, puppies!! I've discovered that its a lot harder to identify a puppy than it is an adult.

Well the Volpino looks just like the German Spitz, the American Eskimo dog and the Japanese spitz and in a photo it is hard to tell. Also thats the shortest Tamaskan I have ever seen so it must be a pup. Thanks Shaneo but cats are gonna be impossible for me, is tabby a type of cat?
