We would like to get a scan at 14 weeks. Our doctor advised getting a 3d scan because of our medical history - this type of scan is apparently more detailed.
He wrote a referral letter and suggested calling Euromedic, the Beacon or Blackrock Clinic.

Our health insurance doesn't cover these scans (we called) so obviously would prefer the cheapest one!
I looked online on all three places websites but there isno mention of 3d scans.
In fact the only one with useful info for us online was Euromedic (they also had a special web price).

Sorry for waffling!, so here is what we need to know - do we just ask them on the day to do a 3d scan or do we need to call them about it, and can they even do it there?

Any advice gratefully received, its our first one and its all a bit overwhelming! :D

I'm not sure they'll do a 3D scan so early in the pregnancy... I'd ring them and ask just in case...

    Also try www.ultrasound.ie

We had all of our private scans there and found them brilliant.

    Also try www.ultrasound.ie

We had all of our private scans there and found them brilliant.

+1 to this, we had a 3D scan there and they were fantastic.

Also try Charter Medical in Smithfield, they do 3D scans and a lot of other diagnostic stuff. http://www.chartermedical.ie/maternal-fetal-ultrasound

Mount Carmel also offer 3D scans http://www.pregnancyultrasound.ie/

I'd say the best bet is to ring around a few places. Usually 3D scans would be done slightly later in the pregnancy cos most people use them as a bonding experience to get a look at their baby, so it would be better to ring them and explain why your doctor has recommended it so early and ask can they accommodate you.

If your getting the 3d scan for medical/diagnostic purposes you can get it done in charter medical in smithfield. Google them and check out the webiste, i know for a fact there are prices on the website. And they have lots of good information about the dofferent types of scans they do, all very detailed. I had a 3d scan at 32wks but i just got it done to see baby, not for medical purposes, and it cost 170. But as far as i know prices vary from 120-250 depending on wheater your looking for medical info, disgnostics, or just a gender scan or for pics. Ring them and tell them what you want and yes you would need to tell them in advance as they need to book you for an appropriate amount of time to cater for the needs of your scan , but when you ring to make appointment they will discuss all that with you. Best of luck and enjoy, its an amazing experience!:)
