Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've used usenet since around 2000/01(or hotclient before that, anyone remember that?) but in the last few years I've not really needed it as whatever I want can be got from torrents(or magnet links as the case may be now).
And as someone with a 200MB line I can tell you that it's rare a torrent doesn't max it out or max out the amount of bandwidth I allow it. Most of my stuff comes from private trackers so they are usually better seeded than the likes of the pirate bay etc(and don't have retention timed downloads like usenet).

But usenet is great and I'm glad its there, i just don't need it at the moment. But if certain laws and restrictions ever come into play I'm sure I'll be heading back that way.

    .

It's too easy for ISP's to shape usenet traffic though. Also, someone has to be seeding whatever it is you want, otherwise your not getting it.

The retention is 1100+ days, it's rarely a factor.

    Get a better ISP :)
Plus I think you mean its easy to shape torrent traffic.

Plus with a private tracker seeding isnt a problem. I downloaded something that was posted in 2006 this morning at full speed.

    Yeah I meant Torrent traffic.

Fair play, I might take a look at private trackers. Last time I looked though many were invite only etc

Some are invite only all right.
But the good ones will allow you to register and then its all reputation and making sure to upload enough.

On a slightly related not, I did get a slow torrent the other day, it was that 7GB star wars mosaic pic that was released for free. It only finished a few mins ago.
It's really cool actually but you need a mental amount of ram to open it. If you're a star wars fan I recommend it :)

Here's a link to a really small section of it:

And what the full thing looks like:

I'm sorry for not posting earlier but I think after all that's been posted on the subject of torrents that this is warranted...
Remember kids, slightly creepy Australians dancing and singing for childrens attention is always wrong......

Not arsed to be honest. Looks like a lovely device, but doesn't really offer anything new so I'll hold off until they're cheap.

Just got a letter today from the scumfu€ks at Ripplecom telling me that my broadband is about to go up by €5 a month and then my "allowance" will be capped at 70Gb!
    My January usage was 116.73Gb!
So my new monthly bill will be €92!
    Arse!!

999 sequel is getting localised for the US on 3DS by Aksys which means more than likely never coming to Europe. Think I'm definitely getting a US machine.

Can you get UPC, magnet etc... in your area?

Never actually heard of Ripplecom before!

Holy crap - Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco working together on a Nintendo console: http://kotaku.com/5887223/sega-capcom-bandai-namco-and-banpresto-working-on-a-3ds-game

If this was 1993, I'm pretty sure it would be some sort of sign of the apocalypse. Now, it's still fairly incredible.

I would suggest that there is cause for caution - too many cooks have been proven to spoil the broth (digital and otherwise).

But still - fascinated to see what the project could be to get them all on board together.

I watched Videocracy the other night on Netflix and this was in it.
A really mental campaign song from everyone's favourite pimp daddy of politics, Silvio Berlusconi.
My girlfriends never seen it and neither has anyone in her family so I'm not sure how much airtime this actually got in Italy.

Videocracy is worth a look by the way.

Please note the blonde who cant sing at 1:18. She's clearly slept with Berlusconi to be in this video :)

Just seen Da Rage's latest haul on facebook...

They're selling a gameboy player for the gamecube for 60 quid!

    Erratic pricing is erratic.

I got one off them brand new and sealed last year for 20 euro.

It'll probably sell for that price as well, which is even crazier than the pricing.

Redonkulous (is that how it's spelt?) I was offered a NES, some dodgy looking games(looked like bootlegs, if that's possible), about 6 Atari 2600 carts, 2 unoffical nes pads and a few odd looking yellow cassette tape games for €20 at a market last Sunday , too bad I left my wallet at home :( Does anybody know what the yellow cassette tapes were for?

I just remembered, they were probly speccy tapes

Played a bit of my new Bangaio this afternoon and very nice it is too, one of the best €4 I have yet spent, it's a bit mad isn't it?
I know I had a "copy" of it a while ago but never played it, really.
Now I have spent some money on it, even a nominal sum, I want to get into it.

He might not have known the value so just picked a high one incase somebody went for it. Probably could have bargained him down.

Like on adverts.ie many post a high asking price knowing full well they will not get it.

Sorry now for the triple post, but that is one of the random and silly-funniest gaming relating things I've ever seen, and I've watched a fair few of their videos!

There should be a flash mob would a **** load of people running the street doing this in random directions.

Oh, the sweet joys of a detached house and two and a half foot speakers from the 70s.

    /Cranks stereo to 11.

I swear to god, if I do eventually buy a house, and it's semi detactched, my neighbours are doomed. At the moment the house foundations are literally rumbling to Rush. Rumbling!! Gotta have you lot around here for a beers sometime soon :)
