The pertinent point being that the sum of 'some cases' is reckoned by the ESRI to be 13,000 welfare recipients or 3% of the total on welfare.

    Edit: props RayM

I think it would be much more productive if these people proffered ways to make change happen as opposed to constantly speculating about what's likely to happen

I'm sure his surname is a constant burden to him. The camera likes him though :)

Vince loves it when he gets the smallest 'bits of data' that support his socialism.

Expect that report to be quoted ad nauseum up to and including the budget.

The SFA had some interesting observations on it today.

It's hardly socialist to point out that the main disincentive to getting off the dole queue is the lack of available jobs, not an imagined life of Reilly with gold taps, surely?

Of course they'd have some interesting observations on it. They were probably going mad when they read the statistics today - blowing all of their propaganda out of the water. If ISME and the SFA had their way, we'd all be working a 60 hour week for no pay.

one of the reason for the lack of jobs is the high minimum wage rates

You mean IBEC? yes, I'm sure they did. They have to justify their wages somehow. Does anybody with a brian actually take anything they say seriously anymore?

I wouldn't rate it as the foremost issue inhibiting growth by any stretch. Minimum wage still ain't a whole lot of nuts.

And the high minimum wage is affiliated with the inflation rate. If the commercial sector were to review their prices, people might require smaller wages to survive in this country

Spot on. Everything is relative. It really pisses me off when IBEC et al compare the minimum wage of a country like Spain to the minimum wage in Ireland. They're chalk and cheese.

Complete nonsense. In terms of purchasing power, we don't have a high minimum wage.

the comercial - private sector have made large adjustments in terms of costs , it would be nice if the state sector reduced the likes of local authority rates on business which have actually increased this past three years

No, it was the Small Firms Association. Are they credible?

One point I remember - are the singles really single kwim?

Believe SW have been calling at 6 a.m. in places - flushing out singles presumably.

"People are walking around literally like zombies" due to the recession.

    Literally ?

I don't think so missus. Who is she anyway?

As for Peter - those glasses must be very rose tinted.
Comparing our economic plight with that of Japan in a positive spin.
    Such utter bollox.

Joe on the ball as usual, Savage Eye only aired about two years ago.

I'm liking the headline in tomorrow's Indo already.

Could sense the lift in Vinnie's voice as he read it out too !

Despite the fact that Joe relentlessly plugs unFunny Friday, he doesn't seem to like it when the joke is on him. Years before the Savage Eye, the Apres Match team did a skit of him with The 3 Joes. I remember somebody mentioning it to him on Liveline the following day. To say he was not amused would be an understatement. :D

One of the advantages of living in Wicklow is that you can vote for Stephen Donnelly.

One of the sharpest people in the Dail.

Vinny cuts to the quick. :pac:

He always comes across with great integrity.
He's the antithesis of the nondescript FF stooge next to Vinny there.

OH shut up Thomas Byrne... your candidate is gonna get massacred, he doesnt have the likability factor that carried Lenihan through... plug him all you want, he wont be going to the Dáil..

    ZZZzzz...

Is VB not doing one to one interviews with the 7 candidates?

Thomas Byrne reminds me of Eoin McLove - he always looks as if he's thinking about jam.

I can't imagine FF having a bright future if he is one of the "new breed".
