    That Cork lad is a disgrace. Our budgie can talk better than him.

    Mallow, Co. Cork - don't tar the good people of Cork City ;)

    Sean's father, Joe, was a Workers' Party Sticky who liked to represent the Sugar Factory workers in the locality. May or may not have professed admiration for North Korea back in the 1970s.

    Sean's harmless, but a wee bit ... dim.

    I think its a disgrace cutting disability for under 25's, its bad enough they have a disability but now there cut by half as well, cant belief there is not more of a outcry over this.

    no TD ever lost his or her seat by upsetting the disabled bloc vote , if they had cut fifty cent of the OAP , thier would be blood on the streets tommorrow with liveline leading the charge

    Its hideous. It frightens me how little regard our politicians seem to have for people like that.

    What about that Sherlock girl who works as an economist for SIPTU? She's the head off Sean. They've got to be related.

    Sounds likely. That should be making this present encounter very awkward if Sean's sister helped out with any of Michael Taft's talking points ...

    have to smirk at the hypocrosy of the american union head playing the violin for wellfare recipients , given a choice between tackling the croke park agreement and taking money off wheelchair bound folk , the union mouthpiece would personally steal his wheels

    I obviously dont mean anybody who doesnt have the capability of working, or those who genuinely cant find work...

    But in country it seems that fairness seems to mean:

    - a person who was running their own business for years pumping thousands of euros in VAT and income tax in to the Government coffers, suddenly finds the business is no longer viable, is entitled to nothing.
    - a person working for a private business who becomes unemployed is only entitled to similar benefits as those who have never worked at all... (albeit they do get redundancy)..

    contrast that with

    - a person who hasnt worked a day in their life is entitled to 188 euros a week, rent allowance, medical card etc etc..
    - a person who works in the public sector is entitled to a job for life, no matter how bad they are, can never be fired, and under Croke Park cant have their wages reduced.. We do need public servants of course, but there are a LOT that are now no longer needed... in planning, councils etc etc.

    If you look at it dispassionately, the Government should be doing more to help people in the top group, who bring money in to the state... And make it less comfortable for those on in the bottom group who take money from the state..

    *awaits throwing of vegetables and such* :pac:

    Also you forgot to mention that fairness is everone been given the same benifts regardless of how much they earn

    As a PS worker may I say that the Croke Park deal is crap and yes those who are useless can't be gotten rid off(and make it looks like everyone in the PS are lazy and there just for the money) and also with the layoff they want coming from retirements will make some area more streched than everyone else.

    But sure, cutting the Croke park agreement might ... er ... hurt the disabled even more.

    Actually, that sounds worryingly like an argument.

    Really? You think our politicians should be doing more to reinforce the social divide? Thank goodness you're not in government

    Vincent only ever brought on the German lady in the first place because he acquired a fetish for the Grundgesetz a few months ago. She doesn't seem to have any use for him beyond acting as a personification of it ...

    @irishh_bob - Yup, that's about right.

    Quite simply the most sensible solution is to close every hospital in the country for two years;
    That way there is nothing spent on health, medical card scheme abandoned, automatically discard a few odd thousand admin.
    The sick and the elderly will die in their droves which means monumental savings on both disability payments and pensions. Drunks and druggies will fall victim to their vices which means a decrease in unemployment figures, decrease in unemployment benefit paid out, decrease in crime (which will go well with the emasculated Gardaí). Homeless problem solved, and due to general untimely demises, lots more positions in the workplace will open up and Full Employment will once again be an attainable goal. We'll be BACK ON TRACK I say! I'll submit my White Paper tomorrow.

    It is disgusting. You judge a society by how it treats it's most needy, for shame on all of us.

    The German woman is only there to oversee the broadcast and make sure that nothing is say that may lead to a national revolt, coup d'etats, and non payment of the money we owe German banks..

    I bet she's also the one who listens to Liveline on behalf of the EU and takes copious notes.

    I wonder why didnt Vincent put that to Taft! i.e. the question of not paying increments in the public sector v. cutting disability
    The Croke park Agreement has to go but it would hurt Vincent's left wing sensibilities to actually pursue this line.

    he has just put the question!

    The German lady doesn't like this two-part budget. Note in the margins of your copybooks everyone.

    Don't think we're going to get a gold star :(
