Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey ppl,

Was thinking upgrading to a road bike from a hybrid but I'm not sure if its the right move coming into winter. Would I have less contol on the road bike on windy and wet days? Maybe I have the wrong perception of road bikes??

I've recently changed the tyres on the hybrid to Marathon plus which seem pretty bulletproof on the ****ty roads and great grip in the wet.

I've a Giant Rapid 3 and was looking at a Cube Peleton.

What do you use the bike for? Commuting? If so, how long is your commute?

Wouldn't worry about lack of control.

It will be the greatest change you could possibly make, winter or not!

Road bike will be absolutely fine in wet and windy weather and way way nicer than a hybrid overall.

Don't Marathon plus's have the rolling resistance akin to cycling in treacle? They can't be much fun to use for avoiding an occasional puncture.

I think I know what you mean by rolling resistance? They do seem to grab any sort of groove in the road especially when I'm going slow (when trying to pass parked cars in the cycle lane at lights).

Rolling resistance basically means some wheels roll better than others or in other words the higher the rolling resistance the more effort you need to put in to maintain a given speed. The marathon plus is virtually puncture proof yes but I hear (never having used them admitedly) that they make cycling a pain in the ass because the rolling resistance is ridiculous (due to the thickness of the tire). Continental Gatorskins are a great compromise imo but worry about getting the road bike first, you'll never look back. (assuming you REALLY need to change).
