141 d bmw 740 black heading south on the M8 today. Had CD inscribed on the number plate. Was fully expecting not to find it on cartell yet when I did, it returned as a 3 litre petrol. I assumed cd is a diplomatic car yeah?

Turns out it's the baby V6 engine with only 240 bhp. Pity as the lad driving it looked like he was from a place where such car mediocrity wouldn't be tolerated...

    Yes, Corps Diplomatique.

While I'm here - I lamped a dark blue Maserati Quattroporte prowling along the South Ring in Caaark this lunchtime. Must try to grab a photo of it if I see it again. I now understand what's meant when they say it has a sort of brooding, Mafia hit-man presence.

There's two Quattroportes cruising around that I've seen, that blue one and a silver one around the Tunnel.

That passed me on the M7 this morning, around 09.45, near Johnstown.

Presume it was that one anyway - it was a Black 141 7 Series with CD plates.

Co-incidentally, I also drove a Black 141 7 Series today, minus CD plates, and with a D rather than i at the end of the number. I liked it.

    Surely you mean straight 6???

The 240bhp can't be right either can it?

What's yours? 260?? Maybe power was reduced for better emissions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,224 ✭✭✭✭Marty McFly

Yea 260 so I really can't imagine in a newer model BMW and heavier car they would have decreased the power output. Yea maybe emissions but I would imagine in a 7 series with all that weight 240 would feel fairly sluggish.

Edit: A quick look around google says the 740li puts out 315bhp.

New model 740i is listed as a 6 cylinder, 2,979cc engine, with 320bhp and emissions of 184g.

    750i is V8 4,395cc - 449bhp and 199g

Sounds more like it. Only I'm on a yoke I dunno how to work I'd link it. I googled bmw 7 series and went to the top one, bmw UK. They're saying 240 bhp for the 3.0 petrol....141D9135 ill step to one side let the pros at it:-)
