Searching for the new sound

Looking for a genre that I dont know what to call. So I'll just list some criteria and see if anyone can match a band/artist to it.

eerie maybe
tom waits ish
folky
softer version of kyuss/queens of stone age
quirky but not too quirky if ya know what I mean kinda jazzy swing feel?
less mental version of primus

I really have no idea what to call the style but basically an eerie folky sound, slow building type of music that would chill the marrow. Instrumental or with decent vocals. Anyone know of any relevant bands?

Something a little more eerie or evil sounding. Not too much like Pink Floyd as such or too clean sounding. More grungy than hippy if ya get me.

We're on the right track but think Red Right Hand or Tupelo type Nick Cave. Or (I know I said not pick floyd but) one of these days.

Is it a genre you've heard before or just a notion of your own?
Maybe mention some of the bands that you don't want it to sound like.

Check out Woven hand if you like 16 horsepower same lead singer - then wiki them and follow links to all the genres, have a fish round youtube, see where it leads you!

Alt Country sounds like my kinda scene. I feel a youtube adventure coming on ! Last time I had a good one of those I ended up listen to Norwegian folk metal.
