Had a great catch up and chat with a friend yesterday. I had been feeling quite miserable the last few weeks, but feel alot happier now. My head slightly hurts though as we had a bit too much wine.

Christmas is in three weeks and the only pressies I have are for my bro in law and my two nephews(and one isn't even born yet).

I'm usually ready well before now. No idea what to get anyone. Depressing. :(

RQ, I had no idea what to get my boyf until yday, looked up the argos catalogue online and now have several things in mind! Seems a little obvious but it helped me anyway. Plus the online one is easier to get around.

I got that RC car you put up for the brother in law. Thinking of the helicopter on there for one of the brothers.

Yeah I've been on amazon looking at DVD's, boxsets, giftsets, books, novelty items. Driven insane.

My sister in law is due to give birth on xmas day, though we're all obviously hoping she goes early or late so she doesn't ruin our christmas. :D But I'm making her up a hamper with nice bath foam, candles, moisturiser, pjs and slippers to pamper herself when the baby is born. Making up a baby hamper for when baby is born and hoping the baby comes early so that I can give it a LUFC jersey for xmas. :)

My own siblings and my parents I have no idea what to get. Sick of people saying DVD(I don't live with you, I don't know what DVD's you do and don't have already  Tell me what DVD's you'd LIKE), smelly set(crap present), a jumper(your sense of style is woeful if I buy you something I'd like, you won't like it).

    GAH!

I'm usually so prepared. With being sick and trying to get the business going when I don't currently have the motivation to do anything other than lie in bed I'm waaaayyyy behind. Giving presents is the only part of christmas I enjoy, I love wrapping up 4 or 5 different things for everyone and handing them over. Heart just isn't in it this year. :(

Acoshla, that's the prettiest Christmas tree ever! :D

I'm trying to figure out what to get people for Christmas too. My main problem is Secret Santa-we did it in college and I got a guy who is part of our group but to whom I've only really spoken to once or twice. He's also absolutely loaded, so he has pretty much everything he wants, I'd imagine. I really don't have any ideas. Usually it comes down to me having a million and one ideas and trying to pick which I can afford, this is a strange feeling!

    Nice tree (and kitty), Acoshla.

Boring and uninvited news of the day: the euro is doing really well against the pound so if you need to buy anything in pounds, now would be a good time.

Also, I'm doing AA research for a story I'm writing and was on the website while it was quiet at work. I was there staring intently and looking frustrated at the "So you think you have a problem" page because it didn't have the info I was looking for when a tourist appeared out of nowhere and peered over my shoulder. Awkward.

My best friend rang me this morning and told me in no uncertain terms to chase down my passport (long story) and get over to her in London for Christmas. It made me well up. She has said it a few times but today she rang specifically to say she wants me there.

She is going to have another friend with her, who lost both her parents this year and is incredibly low :(. It was part of the reason I was pulling back. I didn't want to overcrowd her. She told me they will make room no matter what.

I really have the best friend a girl could ask for :)

It's been a rough few months, but that has totally lifted my spirits :)

People blowing their nose at all irritates me, especially if they're looking at you as they do it and shoving tissue up their nose, shudder.

We're having an autumn/winter wedding, the weather is nicer, it gets dark earlier which is nice, most wedding suppliers offer better deals in off peak times, tons of reasons why it's a great idea!

Things still left To do for Christmas:
    - Finish buying presents.
    - Make an Xmas cake.
    - Clean the frigging house.
    - Buy and put up decorations.
    - Put up the tree.
    - wrap presents and Santa stuff.
    - food shopping, chilli nuts, roses, ect.
    - alcohol shopping
    - choose outfit for Xmas eve and Xmas day
    - be prepared so as I am not giving myself a heart attack on Xmas eve like every other year.

I agree, the darker evenings are so much more romantic than it being bright and raining half the night.

Also, the colour scheme/decor for the wedding can be a lot nicer for autumn/winter weddings. I'm going to have 3 bridesmaids - my sister, my cousin and my best friend, and my daughter will be flower girl, and I don't want them in the same colours. I'm thinking rusty colours, golds, browns. Co-ordinate them but have each of them in a different colour.

Same with the flowers and the centre pieces - I want them to be autumny.

My list is made out, FINALLY. It took ages but hopefully that's the end of it and I won't have to worry about what to get anyone!

Now to study for a few more hours with a banging headache

I have most presents ordered/bought, most are wrapped.
I've Christmas cakes made since October, unfortunately I am slowly working my way through them already, 4 inch cakes are a bad idea ("I'll just have a little slice now...").
Tree is up, all decorations are up.
Don't have to buy any food or drink, so I'm pretty much done I think am I?

I've bought loads of cards, have way too much pretty wrapping paper, I LOVE wrapping presents :)

When should cake and pudding be made? I know people usually make them months in advance, is it too late to make a cake now?

Was thinking of making one this year instead of buying but I've never made one before and I don't want to mess it up. Even though I don't even like xmas cake...

Some people make them really early, like October onwards, and "feed" them with drink every week. You shouldn't have to do this really, if your fruit is moist and your cake is baked enough but not too much it should be moist without drowning it in drink. I've tasted some that were literally wet with raw alcohol, bleurgh. Soak the fruit in alcohol first overnight before you bake and it'll be fine. I've actually made some and tasted them a few days later and they're fine, a few weeks is good to let them build up flavour but it's not the end of the world if you don't have it made yet.

Edit: If you don't like it why make it? Make a chocolate biscuit cake instead, or a chocolate log? If you don't like chocolate then I can't help! :p

Mammy likes cake and I always make a mess of choc biscuit cake* :(

A 'noel' log is something I've wanted to do for years though. Hmmm...

*Could be because I'm too impatient to let it set or a poor recipe, mine never tastes as good as other peoples ones.

Odlums CBC recipe is great, half milk choc half dark, a few hours in the fridge and it'll be set, leave it alone! :) Chocolate log can be made pretty easy, make a choc swiss roll and the cover it in chocolate ganache, drag a fork along it, hey presto chocolate log!

I asked my boyfriend to pick up ingredients to make scones one day (all I needed was butter and flour) off he went and came back with those awful scone mix packets. He said it would be easier for me and take less time but when he tasted the scones he was sorry :P

Your tree looks great Acoshla, glad you got to it in the end.

Finished the decorating today, anything else will just be me going Christmas crazy.

Wrapped some of my boyfriend's presents today and put them in his giant sock. He's all intrigued.

if i put a square of chocolate bar into the middle of cupcakes/muffins mix it'll cook so that it's nice and melty in the middle right??

Chocolate bar chocolate isn't great for heating that much, you'd be better off with something suited to it like chocolate chips, which hold their shape when heated. Any chocolate will melt...but it'll set again as soon as the cupcake cools, good to eat fresh from oven, just like a chocolate chip cupcake once it cools.
