Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Youll need some shorter chainring bolts or you could use spacers but a set of bolts is cheap enough, your LBS should have them. You dont really need to do anything to the front mech just remember not to shift up to a ring that isnt there or you may be able to screw the H limit screw in quite a bit so it wont be able to shift up any more. A bash ring may be a good investment,it would replace the large ring and protect the other two from rocks and the likes. Oh and you wont need to remove any chain links, you could do if you so wanted but if you leave it as it is it means if you ever want to put the large ring back on the chain wont be too short.

Exactly right, the bash ring will come with extra long bolts,I'm not all that into the MTB side of things but I'm sure you can find lots online, they aren't usually that cheap though! You could always go all out and invest in some kind of chain device, there are some that work with two chainrings and they stop your chain coming off on the front rings pretty much all together!

thanks for all the help man, having the big ring while mtbing seems like a waste to me anyway, its never used and im always bashing it off drops etc. and in the process nearly killing myself :D
this would do as a bashring i suppose

Yup, it looks good to me, what I will say is, over the the years I've fitted maybe 100 or so bash ring/chain devices and pretty much every one needed some kind of alteration, whether it be filing, grinding or spacers fitted, you may be lucky and it may fit straight on but a lot of the time it's not that easy!
If you do go for it and it's not working I'll do my best to advise you on here :)

I would adjust the limiting screw to stop the derailleur moving up any higher than the middle ring.
