Your Unpopular Anime Opinions

I will start off.

Naruto and Bleach are enormously overrated.

Dragonball GT actually was good.

Rumbling Hearts is one of the best anime ever created and deserves more attention.

Nothing's wrong with Pokemon being repetitive.

Hentai are overrated too.

Ghost In The Shell is quite boring.

Some sort of romance should be allowed in kids anime like Beyblade and Battle B-Daman, without being overtly ecchi.

Xiaolin Showdown should be considered anime.

I don't believe that thinking Naruto and Bleach are overrated is a hugely unpopular opinion - I'd actually say a lot of anime fans share this opinion. So they should aswell, both are absolute crap >_>

I think dubs are better than subs. It might be that I'm just too lazy too read the subs.

Ugh I'm such a damn sucker from feeling the need to respond despite the title being UNPOPULAR anime opinions, so feel free to call me an arse after this post, it is my punishment for my insatible thirst to "correct" people on the internet

As Konata said, most of us agree that Naruto and Bleach are overrated. HOWEVER, I think calling both absolute crap is unfair for a few reasons. For the two I'll be discussing the Japanese audio versions with English subs, since in Narutos case the English version is unwatchable. As far as Naruto is concerned, the original series is a very good fighting anime. The story is simple (for the usual aha-shake-betrayal we're used to), the character designs are cool (unnecessary bandages and shiny forehead protectors on ninja FTW!), the fights are neat, not too short nor too long and we've got issues and villains that are genuinely interesting. Then comes shippuuden and suddenly there's huge filler arcs, which thankfully don't interfere with the main plot (*cough* those damn dolls in bleach) but still leave a really sour aftertaste, the fights have become long drawn out Mexican stand-off affairs and naruto's techniques start to get more and more lame (Now he can throw his energy ball! Reaaaal original) and it's so easy to forget that this was actually a fun show.

Moving on to bleach, up to about episode 60 something when big baddie takes off with his two less-baddies, it was an interesting show. Then the story went waaay downhill and was pretty much muck. However, most of the fights were still pretty intense and enjoyable to watch, so not all was lost.

Most of us here on boards have seen a lot more shows than Naruto and Bleach and looking back you see how mediocre they really are. But you have to remember that these shows are really popular and are what gets most kids into anime. I myself was lured in by certain ninjas, alchemists and ghosts in some form of shell, and a lot of fans who go on to watch great though provoking stuff are the same. I'm sure most of you have had the frustration of watching a fantastic series and recommending it to one of your friends who's only watched Death Note and Cowboy Bebop and have them twist their face and go "Nah it's not for me" when you know they'd like it? It's so easy to forget that tastes change a lot the longer you're a part of the fandom, and if it were not for these shows the anime community in the western world would be a shadow of what it is now.

If something is considered a "kids anime" then it's too dumb and stupid for something like that. Also, romance and eechi are completly different. You're talking about the difference between Ash kissing Misty and Ash doing some heavy petting with Misty.

Sure, anything that's animated can be called anime. If someone insists it has to be Japanese than tell them the're wrong. People who say pokemon isn't an anime are really wrong though, and possibly pretentious/stupid.

Clannad had a whole lot more harem and moe than story, and making a story very sad doesn't necessarily mean it's good.

Both Ninja Scroll and Outlaw Star aren't very good at all, despite constantly showing up in anime recommendation lists.

Baccano! is great but not the masterpiece people keep calling it. Ditto with Gankutsou, though that's less great.

Code Guess is entertaining but STOP SAYING IT'S 10/10! So much unexplained, so many unrealistic stupid plot developments, nina, nina and oh, nina

Gundam SEED would've been better if Kira had stayed dead.
Gundam SEED Destiny would've been better if Shinn had stayed the main focus of the show.
Both shows were ruined by having too many flashbacks, poor character development, and the reintroduction of the SEED characters.

Neon Genesis Evangelion isn't that hard to understand.

Yu-Gi-Oh has only been relevant since the Abridged Series.

Bleach was only good back when it was silly & comedic.

K-On is about nothing, so I will not watch it.

Incidentally, there is no such thing as a good hentai anime.
Manga, OTOH... :cool:

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is the greatest manga of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is so over rated. It took a fan made 2nd series manga to make it any good. Shinji should just build a bridge and get over himself. He is also my least favourite character.

It varies a lot- some dubs are excellent. Grave of the Fireflies stands out as one of the worst in my opinion.

Pffft, WRONG, evangelion is both the prime example of how to do an anime and how not to do an anime.

DO:

• Completly ignore the tropes and limitations of your selected genre in favor of making a deep meaningful plot
• Place a great story and service to your fans over cheap animation and merchandising
  There's ABSURD amounts of eva merchandise but it wasn't Anno's reason for doing the show

DON'T:

• Use up all your budget half way through
• Create a new ending with tons of stuff left unexplained by creating a new ending that satisfies your director's ego, and then become the greatest troll of all time by making a true ending that raises MORE questions :P

The eva TV series is the most epic fail of all time in my books, because it was unbelievably epic and overall as a show it failed.

But evangelion overall is a delicious cake. The TV series is flour, the end of evangelion is the butter and milk, all those little bits from the PS2 game you can find on the wiki are cream and such, all combining to make one of the greatest....cakes of all time.

Ignoring my complete inability to use metaphor to my advantage, the sim of all it's parts are fantastic and I can't wait until all the rebuilds are done

ALSO shinji is a dis-likable character but that's what makes him so great, if you want upbeat mecha pilots go watch gurren lagann

ALLLSSSOOO quit hating on hentai, it's like a porno with a proper story and everything :pac:

I knew I opened a can of worms with this one :rolleyes: I wasn't saying it was bad, it did have it awesome moments. The story had so much potential, but the last third of the series is to be honest is total merde. The end (and I’m referring to the film) wasn't bad, a little WTF for my liking. The problem I had with it, is the very end

with that I said for fook sake. I was all ready to rant on boards about it until I spotted Retake a fan made manga that

put Shinji back in the past to where the series got bad and told an alternant possible ending without changing the actual ending read it you’ll understand

This just my two cents everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Read the basic story of it on Evageeks. Cannot possibly fathom how it could be better since it's characters, setting and the basis of it's plot is already done, and from what I here it features sex as well, so I could never see it as anything other than a well written fanfic. Also, Eva has awesome music, well directed battle scenes and tons more stuff that simply cannot exist in a manga.

I know you guys like it but come on, better in EVERY way? Give a little credit to the source material at least.

You just read the basic story. Ya should read the whole lot. If the sex bothers you there is two versions one naughty and one not so naughty. I wouldn't say that re-take is better, to me it just added an extra dimension to the story and gave it, for me anyways, a more complete ending.

gundam seed actually is ok... it's a qualified gundam anime.. bt gundam seed destiny is definitely overrated. For me, it's d worst gundam anime I have ever watched...

I'm not saying it isn't good, I'm saying that if it's good it doesn't make the original bad. Also, that soundtrack is really good. Glad you posted it, might have never heard it otherwise since manga traditionally don't have music to go along with them :P

Just wanted to say Naruto and Bleach aren't exactly crap, just not very good and overrated definately. Althoguh i've stopped reading Bleach and Naruto is going all wtf with the last 50 chapters. So much unnecessary and plot numbing stuff happened recently.(SpoilereDotEnSeisOiler) and Naruto is a terrible protagonist now. And Sasuke siding with the big M? Wth was that....

yea anyway. I ain't even that big into Manga and Anime, only seen a few series. One Piece > Naruto/Bleach anyway. Only watched Gundam 00, Monster, Code geass, higorashi no naku koro ni, Death note, Evangelion, Vampire night(:pac:), Ghost in the Shell SAC and movie...and i'm surely forgetting a few Edit-Cowboy bebop...maybe more..Edit 2- Rouroni Kenshi, Ergo proxy, elfen lied, full M alchemist/Must watch new one.

Can't stand dubs as well.

Akira is incredibly overrated.
Shinji is one of the most interesting fictional characters ever conceived.
The ending of the NGE series is much better than the ending of End of Eva'.

Ouren High School Host Club or whatever it's called--mildly amusing in parts at absolute best

Gundam SEED: F*cking hate Kira. Lacus can burn too. It took that series 40 eps or so til it got interesting! And jeez, the amount of times I witnessed "EVADE!" *breast bounce* I swear it should've been a drinking game!

Gundam SEED Destiny: Started better, but that Kira tw@ was still around and it was farcical. Too many flashbacks and Shin went from starting out kinda kickass to turning out quite Kira. Ugh.

Ninja Scroll: film was ok, series woeful (granted I didn't get THAT far into it)

Tokko: Incest was weird and was quite generic

Hellsing: Ok, but not as good as I've heard people make it out to be

Elfen Lied's ending p*ssed me off...decent series otherwise

Kurikame or something....interesting idea, badly executed (involved a doppleganger system if the name's wrong)

FLCL: Seriously rubbish IMO

Spirited Away: Christ I wanted my 50c back after renting it!

Vampire Hunter D (original): You could not pay me enough to sit through that again

Bleach was ok for what eps I saw of it, but deffo wouldn't see the mass appeal in it. Naruto turned me off just by seeing a trailer for it, so never watched it and don't intend to!

Death Note after a certain stage (anyone who watched it is sure to know what I mean, but not gonna spoiler for those who haven't)

Darker than Black Season 2....I call it a cross between Sailor Moon transformation sequences and stabbing your own eyes out. There's a HUGE echo to repercussions of what happens to Hei and never mentioned....also November 11's replacement (white magician or something) was very blink-and-you-miss-him. I don't think I've ever seen anyone as annoying in a wheelchair either.

I'm sure there's others but a bit brain-frazzled at the mo and ranted quite a bit already, but don't think there's anything spoilertastic in it

Edit: Mobile Suit Gundam 00's second movie....first twenty mins are interestingly mega creepy, then the rest is total crud!

Most anime is crap.

Nichijou was sh*te! Some parts made me go "heh" but nothing more. I don't understand the huge hype over it. I dont even know why I followed it up to 19 episodes.
