I have a mate who is afraid of underwater shipwrecks. They just freak him the f*ck out. He's also very unnerved around jelly babies.

I recently discovered I've developed a fear of heights even some that appear on TV, I don't know why, as I worked in consruction most of my working life and never had a this fear.

After I had a terrible holiday skiing I developed a fear of heights for a while during it and after. Even thinking about those chair lifts can get my head spinning :O

Me too! My Mum has had a few things wrong with her eyes-cataracts and now glaucoma and has had eye surgery a few times and not a bother on her. I dunno how she does it. I'd have to be knocked out before a doctor came anywhere near my eyes, so yeah my fear is something going wrong with my eyes.

Also spiders. The big hairy bastards. Number 1 reason I could never move to Australia. Dinner Plate spiders
There's a type of spider in the U.S. (forget what it's called but they're quite big) that rather than feel threatened and run for cover if a human comes near them will instead rear up on their hind legs and attack?

    F*cking hate spiders

OH MY GOD! SICK!!! That is a nightmare come true

I remember a man saying he could'nt stay on a bus if he saw somebody wearing velvet he was very serious about it.He could'nt bear the sight of velvet.I could see 'say a coat hanging on a bedroom door appear to 'jump'in a poorly lit room.I found out we all have "floaters" in our eyes the optician told me and that's why.Everybody is afraid of something.

Just feels like a lottery whether you get it or not considering the amount of "healthy-living" people I've known who've succumbed to it.

I hear ya. My Mother in law died last week after 69 years as a non smoker and eating organic and home grown for the last 30 years. Go figure.

But anyway. I used to be come paralysed with fear if i saw spider. I had it really bad. i have forced myself to over come it over the years. Im mostly ok now but my wife still has to catch the buggers if they are near me!

Horseflies, I completely tense up when one is near me.

Why do they need to bounce around like that?!

I used to have a really bad fear of laser pens back when i was wee and they were all the rage! apart from that I would be very afraid of not being able to breath.

Fish - dead or alive. I'd be uncomfortable with someone eating tuna near me, can't watch jaws/nature docs with fish and the thought of being near a live one would have me crying:eek:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭ElishaR86

Spiders, cannot stand them. Couple of a*holes thought it would be funny to chase me with them and I actually cried I was so freaked out. Actually I hate all insects apart from wasps which is ridiculous since they're the ones that can actually hurt me...

    And drowning

I'm afraid of heights. Stayed in a hotel in New York once and we were on something like the 28th floor. The room had sliding windows. It terrified me being so close to an open window and being so high up. We ended up keeping them almost closed the whole time, which was actually Ok as the place was lovely and air-conditioned.

And flying, hate that as well, obviously the height thing again.

Fear of death. sends me into a panic.but it does show how valuable our lives are.

wild animals, bears, tigers, lions etc. All animals that could kill you.
    poisonous snakes, large spiders.
Thankfully we dont have these in Ireland
    Also, serious illnesses.
    airplane crashes.
    Heights especially bridges overroads.

    All the same theme really.

Until yesterday I no irrational fears, don't like wasps & don't react well to being stung but far from irrational fear

...however yesterday while driving I could see fork lightning hit the road in front of the car & then I drove in torrential rain & the fork lightning was still forming and striking in the area - I was petrified that the fork lightning would strike the car - never in my life been so traumatically frightened!

ha ha ha, anytime i get myself into sticky situations i can hear the newsheadlines in my head :D

One time while living in Holland i went on my bike to meet a friend, the night before i was due home... anyway to cut a long story short... my bike broke and i wandered into someones back yard (looking for help - it was dark) when i came across 3 dobermans looking down at me, growling & licking their lips!!!

I froze, and could hear the news headlines in my head:

'Young Irish girl is mauled to death in Holland night before she was due home'

    Bridges over water,

have no problem with heights on there own and am a fairly good swimmer.

    How ever combine the two..

When I was 5 my dad thought it would be funny to hold me over o'connell bridge by the ankle and pretend to drop me. So the fear may stem from there.

Had something similar happen. Except it was in Malaysia, and my dad and his friend had an ankle each and dangled me above a big dirty creek. what was worst was the big feck off monitor lizard staring up at me like I might make a nice snack.

Wolf spiders? Had one bite me while I was in the US. Not pleasent and I can't say I would care for a repeat. Apparently brown recluses are also very aggressive and are poisonous.

    Fears:

Heights (logical, I could fall. Heights make me dizzy therefore I really do risk falling). Didn't know I was afraid of heights til I went to a climbing wall and looked down from near the top. I froze.

Used to be TERRIFIED of big trucks and stuff. Busses too. Couldn't cross the street as a child without ending up in blind panic.

Cardboard/paper being torn. Makes me start retching, even the thought of it :(

Hospital air (not hospitals themselves). I feel like I'm gonna inhale disease. Again, I think this to be a logical fear.

I'm scared that now Simon Cowell is going to be cryogenically frozen, sh!tty televised talent contests will never end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,944 ✭✭✭fedor.2.

I'm scared of heights because I get the near overwhelming impulse to jump. I'm scared of coincidences because that might mean that everything I think is right. I'm scared of being alone and I'm scared of people. I'm scared that one day I might be seen as a suspect in a murder or rape that I had nothing to do with and no one will believe me. I'm afraid of brain damage that will make me confused all the time and unable to know what's going on even more than I do now or that I'll become comatose but know everything that's happening around me and hear people speaking as they pull the plug because they think I'll never come out of it. I'm afraid that maybe the Devil does exist and I sold my soul to him by accident for something retarded and forgot about it or he wiped my memory and that when I die I might go to Hell. I'm afraid that every bad thing I've ever done will come back to bite me in the ass, all my lies and people that I hurt will find me. I'm afraid of dying without someone loving me or having someone I love in that same way die and then leaving me alone, and being burned because as unattractive as I am now at least I have no obvious physical scars so someone might want to be old with me, but if I do then that chance decreases even more, so I rarely leave my house or cook which also helps and aggravates my problems with people. I'm afraid of my own thoughts because some of them aren't nice and I worry that makes me a terrible person and even being aware that these thoughts make me a terrible person and not liking it doesn't help me morally. I'm afraid of sex and put it off for as long as possible in relationships because I'm terrible at it and then whoever I convinced to give me a try will laugh and I'll never see them again. I'm afraid that my Mom will find me and make everything difficult for me. I'm afraid of failing and being a failure so I stop trying and that makes my family pissy, but I'd rather have them think I'm lazy than a massive fuck up. I'm afraid that my hamster died because of me, or even worse that he actually WAS hibernating and I buried him alive.

    Also moths.

Also paragraphs. I like your username though.;) Love the bit bout the hamster too
