Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm interested in applying for the HDip in secondary school teaching (expected start date Sept 2012) and I've heard a few rumours that the course may be made into a 2-year course.

Anyone have any info on this?

It's a two-year course (at night?) in DCU at present - or at least it was in 2009. Have you googled your "rumour"?

The Teaching Council have proposed that it become two years in length, and this will eventually be followed through by colleges. I'm not sure when though.

Apparently doubling the length of time will make better teachers .

You apply through www.pac.ie but I don't know when they start taking applications.

The 3 months you refer to is already a requirement. From www.pac.ie:
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RECOGNITION TO TEACH FRENCH
(In Addition to the General Requirements)

Applicants must provide officially certified evidence of satisfactory achievement in primary degree studies (or equivalent) as outlined hereunder:

The study of French as a major subject in the degree extending over at least three years and of the order of 30% at a minimum of that period.

Details of the degree course content to show that the knowledge and understanding required to teach French to the highest level in post-primary education has been acquired.

The study of a substantial body of relevant literature through the medium of French over at least three years of the degree course supported by the related list of authors and texts.

Residential experience of at least three months in France or other country where French is the vernacular.

Explicit details of standards achieved in degree studies in French with at least an overall Pass result in the examinations in French.

The bit in bold is what you are referring to. It is generally expected that this requirement will have been met during your degree. Did you go to France as part of your degree?

No, but I did go to Reunion Island, Dom Tom to teach English as a language assistant for 8 months and that was suggested by my college french tutor. Will that count?
