Expect us is just their motto of sorts. The next "big" thing is apparently in either sep. or oct. they plan to shut facebook down.

Reckon the poster is just some tween thats into them and is printing posters off.Load of people say that their part of the group but they're more supporters than anything and don't actually hack.

The only ting most of these eeeeejits could hack into would be a blaa with some red lead in it!

^ I don't see how (in my very limited legal opinion) that it could be a data protection issue. All they are doing is keeping a few photo's,posts and info that the user put on their site.

I honestly don't see where all the outrage is coming from. That's not to say that it isn't warranted.

I understand completely where you are coming from, but as you can see its not just Anonymous that is angry with Facebook : http://news.techeye.net/security/germany-furious-with-facebook-alleged-data-harvesting

An awful waste of Sellotape to be honest .

Well not really, it got people talking here about Anonymous. And for those people that think that they cant hack. Maybe you should ask the FBI, Sony,Visa, Mastercard, HBGary "Security Company" the list goes on and on.

You are talking about a group of international hackers that number in their thousands, from all walks of life. The common assumption is that they are a group of teenagers looking to cause mayhem.

And suddenly there's panic when there's talk of talking down Facebook. When the question that you should ask yourself is why would they see Facebook as a target in the first place?

Btw. I'm not a member of Anonymous, in fact its not something you can be a member of.

But some of the comments on this thread are either made in jest or ignorance.

How many sites and servers can stand up to a ddos assault of thousands of computers or more in a botnet controlled from an IRC Channel?

Maybe some of you are unknowingly are part of that attack? How many of your computers are infected?

Its now unknown that 12 million computers are in Botnets, don't believe me? Google it or use Wikipedia.

So yea, a little bit of sellotape and a piece of paper got you all talking about Anonymous.

Maybe the good thing about it all is that it will inform some of you how secure or otherwise you computer or wireless connection really is.

Or maybe most of you are part of an Anonymous attack, without even knowing it.
    lulz :D

    Two arrested over hacking claims
Two men have been arrested by Gardai in connection with the hacking of computer systems and websites.

It follows searches at two houses in Galway and Offaly yesterday morning.

The two men who are being held at Tullamore Garda station in County Offaly and are aged in their late teens.

The arrests are part of an international investigation into the work of a hacking group known as Anonymous.

Reckon the lads in the station need someone to get free passes to their fav porn sites and as soon as they cooperate they'll be released.

    Update

Released already, apparently was in connection with the Fine Gael website....and free porn.
Nice to see the new government show that they won't overreact to a prank by a couple of teens.Next up ,public execution for some one who threw the stink eye at Mrs Kenny.

How easy is it to hack into other peoples email accounts?
    I'd imagine its almost impossible?
Anyone ever actually know of it being done?

Its absolutely piss easy for some people. You get in by answering the 'secret question' people put in.

Divide by zero is an internet meme created by the kind of people involved in Anonymous.

Also, divided by zero can also mean that nothing can divide the Anonymous group.

Are ya mad. Its supposedly simple.
I know a super dooper hacker but he wouldn't be into hacking emails and sheite like that. He be into what I believe they call ethical hacking.

I think I was a bit unclear in how I explained. Suppose your 'secret question' is what is your mother's maiden name. Plenty of your friends will know the answer, so any of them could get access to your account. When I was younger I did it a few times to my friends for juvenile reasons.

That method would allow you to gain access to the Email account through a Password reset option.
Meaning the owner of the Email Account would not be able to use the account again and the Password has been reset.
The owner of the account has to change the Password using the "Mothers" name to reset the Password again. Unless the Hacker has changed that Password.

This will tell him the account has been hacked in the first place.

Its a lame way of doing it.

I think that Fine Gale should give the 2 guys the job of maintaining their site.

Because the last shower they got designed a Website that was full of vulnerabilities. So much for Web Designers.

Anyway, I'm not going to talk about Email Accounts of Hacking again on this boards. Mainly because I don't think its the correct Forum for that.

    Keeping the Mods happy:D

Those that want to know more about that stuff. Google is your friend.

Not really. Social engineering is one of the most effective ways of gaining access to any system because people give out tonnes of info (incuding things theyd use for passwords & secret questions) without even thinking. 1st cars, 1st job etc is all useful info.

What makes it lame? In the end, the goal is to gain access. If they do it in an easier way then fair play. Or are you disappointed all hacking doesnt take place like this

That's one hell of a hacking test. :) (Watched that linked hacking clip from the Social Network and it made a lot more sense.) So what would be a good hacker movie then?

Trying to pick a good hacking movie would be a hard thing because its not really that entertaining most of the time. I wouldnt be good at it, I just know a lot of the basics from a couple of exams & courses and most of it is just gathering information to make your life easier.

Yep. At least nobody suggested that "Hackers" movie. :)

It is the kind of question that is hard to answer. Some might opt for "Sneakers", "Enigma", "Three Days of the Condor" or "Pi". People trying to establish credibility will mention "Wargames" (some of the techniques were accurate for the time). I can't ever remember anyone choosing "Hackers".

Exactly. They're muppets. Trying to pretend they are doing things for the good of people but are only doing it for notoriety.

Anonymous are opportunists. They 'hack' (use automated scanners) a list of sites that they have dorked with google, and then try to justify it in retrospect. They have no ultimate goal, other than to serve their own egos.

They remind me of people who beleive in freedom of speech, providing of course you only say things that they would agree to.

Not really for freedom of speech after all.

Its been donkeys since I looked into hacking but I always thought most of it was guessing the password, or guessing the secret answers.
