Yeah some spots have sound centres but this one is renowned for having a fierce tight arse!

What is with this thread today I have Lynda telling me to get an erection in a room full of men while getting a needle in the arse, and now you thinking im fluttering my eyes and giving compliments to men :pac:.

Oh right that sucks but from the sound of it your car failed on feck all last time so should breeze through this time hopefully :).

    Whatcha doin'?

As bad as it sounds, I'm not sure yet! I wanted to do a PLC in Criminal Psychology, just to get me doing something part time before I go for my degree in September, because the last time I was in college, I was 17, so quite a while ago! :pac:

Unfortunately, nowhere near me does it, they only do it in the autumn. So I'm looking into social care, counselling, or possibly Japanese. :) I'll be talking to the course tutors tomorrow evening anyway and deciding there and then, depending on the course content. :)

In a room full of men, a needle in the arse is the LEAST of your worries!

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

    Oh, Japanese sounds cool....and difficult.

Mind if I ask why you chose Swords Ink in the end? I just looked at the portfolios for their artists and I have to say, some of it is pretty bad work. :-/ Seriously unimpressed by their work tbh.
I looked at their stuff on FB- pretty decent IMO. I was recommended to them because my mother knows the receptionist and he has some amazing work done on him by the inhouse artists. They seem like a sound bunch but I won't know until I get the sketch back if I'm going to go with them.
Also, they quoted me €200 for the full works- colour, shading and lines which I think is pretty good.
Having said that, one of my more heavily inked friends recommended Vic in Thundercat Ink next to Thunder Road Cafe but I've yet to see any portfolios and I've heard conflicting info on that studio...

My boyfriend is doing Japanese now through the Rosetta stone. He swears by that to learn a language - as does my brother who's learning french through it. Should have a look-see into that, save ya a few bob paying for it if you go about it the right way ;)

Social Care would be good, always work in that. Kinda involved in that aspect at the moment and it is rewarding work, though can have its downsides too.

Have you not googled portfolios of the places you are considering?

Like, I'm REALLY not being smart here, but you genuinely consider these facebook pics from swords ink to be good?? https://www.facebook.com/Swordinkdublin/photos_stream :confused:

Would you not just forget about price for a while and go to the best artist? Better to save for a good artist than be left with something flawed.

I'm not saying that to be harsh, it's just the place hasn't got a good rep, with very clear reasons as to why, if you look at the Facebook page, and nobody wants you to end up with a bad tattoo. Better to wait and save and go to someone who'll do your idea justice, seriously.

I only know about 10 words, but after watching Battle Royale for the first time at 16, I've been absolutely determined to learn more! :)

Yeah, I was looking into that, but I'm considering getting that along with classes, 'cause the mammy said she'd pay for whatever course I want to do. :)

Yeah, I know it can have downsides and be depressing and emotionally draining and all, but I think the benefits would outweigh the negatives, for me. Without going into specifics, I have more than ample life experience to know how to deal with bad situations, thankfully. :)

    SORRY for the triple post!

I self studied and sat it for the leaving cert, but kept it up ever since cause it went really well. I had no idea you could do a PLC in it, which college is this?

I had no idea, either. :pac: A PLC college called Coláiste Dhúlaigh. They don't have it advertised but said they're happy to make up classes if you can find a few interested parties, and I have 6 people willing to do it with me if I decide to ask them to sort it, 'cause they have enough language teachers to do it, according to the head of the place. :)

Would Japanese be hard to learn?

Would Japanese be hard to learn?

I haven't a clue, but I'm good with languages (fluent in Irish, good conversational German, small amounts of Polish, Latvian, French, Spanish and Dutch), so feck it, can't be that hard. :) If I end up doing it, I'll teach you. :p

It's a last resort though, because I'd rather study something potentially beneficial to me in my chosen career path. :pac: If I do it, it'll just be for fun really.

Thinking I might wait 'til Christmas to get my tattoo. There's a lot to consider, y'know? Also, I'm trying to plan a holiday on a tight budget so I'll put the thought of any new ink on the back-burner for now. :/

That'll take about 3,000 drunken phone calls :p

It isn't actually that difficult, I'd say it's probably more difficult to learn say, English tbh. Japanese is very regular.

However, to be able to read a newspaper, you're looking at around 2,200 kanji (characters). So although not difficult, it's a long process.

Ive always loved the thought of knowing Japanese would save me reading subtitles on a lot of films for one :), but I just love how far there culture is departed from mine hence why visiting Asia and specifically Japan is top of my places to visit list :o. Would love to know Spanish aswell just because of how common it is worldwide.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭Please Kill Me

The only language I learned (because I spent a lot of time there) is Slovak. I found once I got the hang of it (but by no means fluent) how I could understand Polish as it's very similar.

@fewtinsoffroth - shush, I talk to Marty when I'm sober too, ya know! Yeah, I heard it's a long process, but I was told that in comparison to learning German (which is supposedly similar in difficulty to English), it's easier.

Yeh I noticed that, I work with a good few eastern Europeans from different countrys and they can all understand each other seems to be the basics are the same with variations here or there in some words.

Yeah I did German whilst I was in secondary school and I agree with that, cause Japanese is so regular. And it's more fun. It makes it easier. Japan is just fun :p

I have two options. One is a trauma counsellor for sexual abuse and rape victims. The other is criminal psychologist, specialising in sexual crimes.

Depends on finances, because the counselling route will cost me a fortune in personal therapy that is apparently mandatory for anyone going down that route. We'll see. :)

I seriously need to learn Japanese. You're selling it to me in a way that I'm getting excited and want to go buy dictionaries and stuff. :pac:

Yeah I notice that too, except with the hungarian lads. That's the exception. But the Latvian's/Lithuanian/Russian lads seem to be able to talk. They've worked all over Europe though, so it might be that.

That sounds like interesting stuff, you'd need quite the stomach for some of that I'd imagine.

Thats strange I work with Hungarian twins, and they often talk to Polish, Slovakians etc maybe its different dialects depending on the part you live.

A Latvian friend I have told me that in schools over there, they learned Russian, so a lot of them have a decent understanding of it. She actually used to get me cheap smokes from russian shops 'cause they sold them for a fiver a pack after bringing them over from Russia. :pac: Polish and Latvian are really similar, according to her.

@Marty: Jaysus, that cake looks feckin' rank! *shudder*
BTW, does anyone know when/where this year's Dublin Tattoo Convention is on? I figure it wouldn't hurt to go there scouting for artists. Do a spot of networking, y'know?

    What the...

Feckin' Westlife on the telly right now. I miss having Sky. At least we got some decent tracks on VH1 Classic and Scuzz...

Jaysus, I wouldn't fancy either TBH. Very commendable to want to do that, but it's horrific. Kudos.

Yeah, it's a pretty tough field to work in, but I have my reasons, and I'm 100% positive I can handle it. :)

Ha, I might when I get paid!

Yeah, my ex said when she was in school, Russian was their second language. It's like us learning Irish in school.
