I don't think the z68 solid state caching is able to utilise more than 64 GB so buying more than that might be a waste of money. You should check this.

I have found amazon to be very good for electronics recently, and they have free delivery.

I was planning on just using that as an OS drive and for certain programs and games. Performance wise wouldn't that be the better option then to use the caching function?

I was thinking that i don't really need a z68 over the p67, but all the motherboards that i looked at from either chipset seemed similarly priced regardless. By that i mean because i want it be able to support 16gb ram, rear and front usb 3.0 and a sata III controller and E-sata ports.

As for amazon, i tried ordering a few things(non electronic) off them a couple of weeks ago and they seem very picky about what they would ship. For instance they refused to ship a sports bottle, so do they deliver all pc components? Don't want to start looking at stuff from them and then be disappointed later.

why are you going for 16gb of ram? what do you plan on doing with this rig? gaming? you really don't need 16gb to game.

1700€ is the upper limit on how much you need to spend to get top performance.

don't buy from dabs, komplett or Amazon! they're far too expensive!
Hardwareversand.de, scan.co.uk or overclockers.co.uk is my recommendation, in that order.

Hardwareversand is German and only takes bank transfers, or PayPal (but PayPal adds 3%) if this isn't a problem, you'll find them to be pretty much the cheapest in Europe. their shipping rate is a flat €30 no matter how much you order.

someone else will be along shortly and build you a PC for that budget, I'd do it but I'm on my mobile ...

For that money, grab watercooling gear from Specialtech.co.uk as well. My system (now with a single 580) went from 53xx to 72xx in 3DMark 11 when I had everything OCed under water. Even in Crossfire, 6950s will only get you about 66xx, stock settings.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, its starting to take shape now.

    Intel Core i7 2600K
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHz CL9 XMP
    Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 S1155 Intel Z68 Express ATX
    WD Caviar Green 2TB Sata 6Gb/s x2
    HIS HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo GDDR5 2048MB x 2
Antec Performance One Series P193 V3 Case
    Corsair 750HX, 750 Watt
Corsair Hydro Series H100 (Sockel 775/1156/1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3/FM1)
    LG GH24NS bare schwarz

Corsair Memory 120GB Force Series 3 SATA 6Gb/s SSD
    or
    Crucial M4 128GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5")

    Total €1650-1670

I should have said above, i will be using it for gaming but also some specialist toolkits which is why i want the 2600k and its hyperthreading. The reason i was getting 16gb of ram was that i want to try out using some of the ram in a ram disk. Has anyone on hear tried it before?

Never used crossfire before, would that psu still be enough to power both cards? Also would i be better going for a motherboard with 2 x PCI Express x16 slots like the ud7?

Also can't seem to decide between those 2 SSD, i have read several conflicting benchmarks and reviews.

The h100 come with Shin-Etsu Thermal compound, which corsair claim is extremely good, any thoughts is the mx-4 better?

Dunno about the SSDs, I'll leave that to someone else.

RAMDisk is a little pointless with the SSD. You'd only have about 10GB space, what would you put on it? What would you need the extra speed for that you couldn't use the SSD for?

    PSU is fine for Crossfire.

You don't need to x16 slots at x16. Both at x8 still give the same performance.

Shin-Etsu is great. Pretty much the best there is out at the moment. MX-2 or whatever will be fine if/when you need to replace the thermal compound though.

Thanks for the info, well my thinking behind the ram disk comes from an article that i found here. It seems like a clever idea, to store temporary files on it to reduce the number of writes to the ssd and would be convenient too since they would be deleted when you shut down.

If it's just to prolong the life of the SSD, there's no point. It's only the first gen SSDs that had the whole limited-write stigma, and even then it was exaggurated.

Day-to-day use, if you used it, pretty much like a regular HDD (disabling defragging and shadow copies), your average SSD will last you 5+ years, minimum.

It's mainly curiousity and since ram is now so affordable, its too tempting not too. Unless theres a 8gb set that will give me a big performance boost over the 16gb, why not?

Also just been doing some research on the graphics card and i read the 6950's can be unlocked to 6970's. I read that some of the newer versions can't be, anyone know if this model can?

Also i'm planning to overclock the processor quite dramatically with the water cooler. I'm looking for a stable 5.0ghz and dare i say beyond, will that motherboard let me a achieve that and if not can someone suggest one that can?

I am building a new rig, this is what i have so far having changed things several times. Anyone got any alternative parts to recommend or changes in general? Thats pretty much my limit price wise, i could push out a tiny bit more but not much. My original limit was €1000 but i quickly realised that wasn't going to be near enough.

    Intel Core i7 2600K €269.00
    Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHz CL9 XMP €115.55
    Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 S1155 Intel Z68 Express ATX €251.90
Corsair Memory 120GB Force Series 3 SATA 6Gb/s SSD €162.21
WD Caviar Green 3TB HDD €132.50
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 580 1536MB Super Overclock €460.32
Antec Performance One Series P193 V3 Case €143.49
    Corsair Memory TX750 V2 750W ATX Enthusiast Series €86.16
    Sony Optiarc DVD±RW €26.95
Corsair Hydro Series H100 CPU Cooler €90.67

    Total: €1738.75

I also just noticed that other thread about dabs.ie, since most of my build is from dabs can anyone recommend another reliable site with free or affordable delivery?

What I want to know is if h100 will fit in p193?

It looks like the answer is no, or not without modifying the case. The p193 has dual 140mm fans at the top of the case, while the h100 needs them to be 120mm mounts.

I have been trying to find a case that has that specification and the corsair cases seem like the only ones. My issue is that i am restricted by high and the p193 is a short case but can still fit an extended atx mobo.
