Im so afraid of not making friends or getting lost in dublin, yet all I see is people being excited about college? And for stuff like freshers week, who do you go out with if you have no friends in the college with you? Im stressing so much, please tell me im not the only one!

Don't worry there'll be loads more like you, terrified now but probably all besties in a couple of weeks! :D

The fact it's so terrifying and walking into the unknown is what makes it feel so exciting! I mean if you knew what was coming then it could feel boring. After several years of being surrounded by the same people in the same classes, it's always awesome to have some change and new beginnings.

Besties? What regional dialect is this a part of?

    The "pulling-the-piss-out-of-people-who-say-stuff-like-besties" one. :D

It was either that or "BFFLs". :P

I was in a pretty similar situation a few years ago hatethisfeeling. I wouldn't have minded had I not had to go to college at all, I was pretty worried about it.

Within a week you'll know loads of people, so don't be too concerned about it. If you make any effort at all you'll get to know people.

I'm the EXACT same and I'm heading to DIT too! Literally you have just written all my feelings word for word.:(
What is it that you're going to study?

    Roight.

Go for the larger folk and give them the belief that they can change their fat eating habits. When they do they'll love you forever... :pac:

You'll get chatting to people easily! I am incredibly shy and managed to get on with everyone. People are so easy going :)
Everyone else will be a bit nervous so you're all in the same boat.

Don't worry about getting lost, it's not a big place. If people are going out you can arrange to meet them somewhere you know before hand then all head out together. You could also try to get to know the area before you start.. try planning your route to college, getting to know the buses. That way you'll be a bit more familiar with the place. If you aren't used to using buses you can ask the driver to tell you where your stop is.

I went to DIT as well and no one really knew each other either. After a day or two we all knew everyone.

I am going to DIT too! :D
To be quite honest, I'm more worried about accommodation than making any friends. :|
Surely I've heard people like crazy individuals, so I should fit in some crowd no bother! :D In the worst scenario, if I became a social outcast, I'm pretty sure my imaginary friends wouldn't bail on me... :P

Dublin is a small town, regardless of what the natives think. You'll be doing well to get lost there unless you're drugged, blindfolded and dropped onto a random bus.

Regarding friends, the place will be full of people from two categories: those entering the college with friends (who will be slower to pick up new friends) and those with no friends yet (like you) who will be fast to do so.

I went to college with a big gang of friends from school, but left college five years later with a whole different set of friends.

Don't sweat it, you'll be fine.

Ah it's unreal! I spent most of the day on websites like daft.ie, myhome.ie. etc and still feel like I haven't found anything near what I'm looking for. I can't really afford high rent, and I really don't want to be living somewhere on the outskirts of Dublin and get the bus or luas to college everyday. D: (Oh my God, I actually wrote 'school' instead of 'college' there and giggled when I had to correct it!:D)
Ah well, I guess you can't have it all! :( :P

I just wish I was 18 when I started instead of the end of October :/.

I'm finding that the majority of ones on those sites are 2nd or 3rd year students and I'd feel a bit weird moving in with them!

I finally got "school" out of my system by burning the ol' uniform today. Wouldn't risk doing it before in case it was bad karma and I wouldn't get an offer.:P

Couldn't agree more! I would probably be quite intimidated by them, as I am only a fresher. :P But then, what choice do I really have... If I went for the likes of Herberton Apartments, Griffith Halls of Residence or the Gateway Village, it's already around 400 a month, plus bus/luas fares. UGH, DUBLIN, Y U SO COMPLICATED!? D:
Oh, my uniform has been neatly folded and hidden away in the darkest corner of my wardrobe... Except for the trousers, I made a fancy pair of shorts out of them.:P

Yeah, my cousin goes to St. Pats and she sent me links to all these girls looking for flatmates but sure we'd have nothing in common!
My tea went everywhere when I seen that it's €88 to get a dublin bus/luas 30 day pass! That's €880 if I'm up in Dublin for 10 months! :mad:So only accommodation within a reasonable walking distance to Cathal Brugha St. is getting any thought from me.
SNAP. I have a ridiculous pair of high-waisted grey shorts made from my own school trousers!
