Some may suggest rose tinted glasses here:

I had quite an abundance of available Centre backs here and a number that were very good. But when I reviewed the thread and noticed this guy hadn't been picked I just had to secure him.

    My Pick will be:

The Sexiest man to hit the British Isles since Dirk Kuyt:

    Martin_Skrtel_624017_633570767320937500.jpg

    Martin Skrtel

One of the few men to come out of last years disasterous campaign with their head held high and one of only two outfield players in the whole Premiership that played every minute of the season (The other being Leighton Baines.)

Prone to the odd error, but hey, what centre-back isn't. While some say he struggles alongside Jamie Carragher, I think his brute strength and determination to get the ball will compliment the calm, composure and intelligence of my other centre-back, Michael Dawson.

Delighted to get a player with Premiership, Champions League and International experience at this stage of the competition.

    David Silva,
    Gareth Bale,
    Stewart Downing,
    Ian Rush,
    Gareth Barry,
    Glen Johnson,
    Michael Dawson
    Martin Skrtel

My next pick is Kyle Walker. A 21 year old right back that has come on leaps and bounds this season. After a loan spell at Aston Villa last season, he has now established himself as Spurs' first choice right back. He also was one of the few England players to stand out at the U-21 European Championships this Summer.

He's strong and quick, reliable in defence and excellent going forward.

Finishing my defence with Maynor Figuero

    Pick 8

Stephen Warnock.....Former Liverpool and England full back that will finish off my defence with solidity and competent going forward.

    Pick 9

It was always going to be one of these two and for me Cristiano Ronaldo is the best all round footballer in world (red tinted glasses) ;) but since leaving united he's went on to smash records in Spain and is and could well stay forever as the most expensive footballer ever.....

Well, it was going to be one of two lads, and I am more than delighted to get this one....

    Leo Messi

Not only the best player in the world right now, but imo the best ever. An annoying joy to watch.

Was looking for a classic 'number 10' playmaker to fit into a 4-3-3 and at the same time compliment Robin Van Persie in attack. Who better than his Dutch international colleague, Wesley Sneijder.

This is by far the hardest decision I've had to make yet. I was torn between 2 players here more than the rest. In the end, I think i've made the right decision by selecting the player I feel must suits our side and the player who will bring the most balance to the team.

    My 9th Pick is:

    Xavi_300.jpg

    Xavi

Very few compare to Xavi. He is the ideal grafter in the middle of Barsa’s perfectly oiled machinery. Almost impossible to take the ball off him, he is technically probably the best midfielder of his kind in the world, and many still cannot see why he was not awarded the FIFA player of the year in 2010. He is also an amazingly clever player while defending, and manages to regain possession with relative ease, very rarely committing fouls. Sitting along side Barry in midfield, it gives us great protection in front of the defence and add to that his ability to go forward. His ability to link up with Silva, Bale and Downing will be paramount to our success in this competition.

Samuel Etoo - best striker in the world atm imo.Dunno why he moved to Russia but it is savage money. This lad has nothing to prove as he has done it all with Barca and Inter. Part of the best transfer deal inter have ever done , and the worst from a barca perspective. He will lead the line for my team.

I had a particular type of player in mind that I had to have in my team. With the likes of Iniesta, Xavi and Silva all gone I've opted for someone will become my 'Assist Machine'

    Mesut Özil

    Mesut-Ozil-Real-Madrid.jpeg

Özil helped himself to 17 assists in his first season at Real Madrid and settled instantly at the Bernabeu. Still only 23, his best years are ahead of him and in my team I think he will help unlock even the toughest of defences.

I am delighted to announce the 15th pick of the Rest of the World Round is Dani Alves of Barcelona and Brazil. Dani_Alves.jpg

The best full back in the game and someone who will give me the width needed. He bombs forwards like winger yet rarely get's caught out of position. He gives me great options with my team.

    Foster
    Alves----Mertesacker---xx
    Zabaleta
    Parker
    ----Modric----Milner---
    ----xxxxx
    Bergkamp---
    Dzeko

This the Christmas Tree formation I quite like. Parker, modric and Milner together in midfield with Alves giving the width. Bergkamp and xx sitting behind Dzeko. Milner could even swap places with the attacking midfielder.

Also 4-2-3-1 which I probably will go with.

    Foster----
    Alves---Mertesacker---xx---Zabaleta
    Parker
    Modric
    Milner
    Bergkamp
    xx
    Dzeko

I'm quite happy with team thus far. 2 bargains in the next round and I'm sorted.

Ok, going to bite the bullet and go for it. Came very close to picking someone else who would have made my formation choosing a LOT easier but I think this guy is too good to turn down. Unsure whether I'll play him on the wing or in the middle but he is great at both. Is imo up there with Xavi and Iniesta as the best CMs in the world and he is more well rounded than them with a great amount of bite to his play. Is a great winger too and that is where the gap in my team is so we'll see how it goes as I have versatile players in Anderson and Ramsey who can also play the left side role. I'm still torn between him and my other choice even as I write this but the other player is a bit wasteful and having him and Nani in the team, while potent would probably be lacking the consistency that this man provides.

    I give you Bastian Schweinsteiger.

My next pick is Givanildo Vieira de Souza - better known as Hulk. This guy is a unique player. He has massive strength but has the pace to go with it, he also has a thunderous shot. A player any defender would fear. He was voted Portuguese player of the year last season in which Porto won the the treble including the Europa League.

For my rotw pick, javier pastore, paris saint germain, 4 goals in six appearances so far, nice addition to my midfield!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,585 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    right here, goes....

i'm going to keep Brown, as it's probably a bit unfair to change everything, and i think he still is a quality defender who I won't get much better than at this stage. so i'm changing 3 players (no more Robben), in order to bring balance and quality.

Premiership Legend Pick (instead of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink):

    Teddy Sheringham

    Teddy-Sheringham_971264.jpg

a legend for Spurs, and for United, he will provide the perfect link between midfield and attack, as well as being the fulcrum by which i can bring my wide players into the game.

he is disciplined, has a great scoring record, wonderful vision and technique, and will help cause problems to any defence.

    Regular Pick (instead of SWP):

    Chung-Yong Lee

    34239_ori_lee_chung_yong.jpg

SWP can be erratic IMO, so i've gone for a man who, while injured at the moment, will provide far more balance, consistency, work rate, can cross, and also has an eye for goal too.

    absolutely ideal.

he is a man that who is too good, with all due respect, for Bolton Wanderers, and at 23, will IMO, be at a big 4 club soon rather than later.

Rest of the World Pick (instead of Arjen Robben):

while Robben is a fantastic player, i couldn't find a way to balance the team without getting an all-action midfielder to accompany Song in the middle. and boy, do i have that player.

already a superstar at Rennes, he is 21, broke into the French national team last year, has been ever present since, and has genuinely been reported to be their best player in each of the games he's played for them.

he's also rumoured to be on the shortlist of pretty much every big club you care to mention. he is....

    Yann M'Vila

    yann-m-vila_12043_w250.jpg

so my team looks like this....

    Cech
    ?????????
    Brown
    ???????????
    Clichy
    M'Vila

    Song
    Lennon
    Yong-Lee
    Sheringham

David Hoilett is Blackburn's new star - fast, skillfull, good in the air and a neat finisher. Capable of playing anywhere in the attacking 3rd and also tracking back, Hoilett will complete a savage attacking lineup of him, Kuyt, Dempsey and Cantona.

I think it's time I chose my goalie. I chose Paul Robinson, who imo is one of the best in the league and would be competing for England's no 1 jersey had he not retired. Delighted to get him.

My next pick is a top centre half who has been plagued by injuries for his career but has now moved to Stoke and has once again shown his immense quality. A top player who would have risen to the top with Real Madrid if injuries hadn't taken their toll. Had a look there and nearly sure he hasn't been picked. Will work well with Stam and make an ominous defense.

With my 10th pick I select Younes Kaboul of Tottenham and France.

    Younes+Kaboul+Tottenham+Hotspur+v+Fiorentina+PoT5FxXOLfHl.jpg

Now first choice centre half with Spurs he is a fantastic athlete which is just what I need beside a reader like Mertesacker. He has come on leaps and bounds as a player and his mind farts are becoming few and far between. I was torn between Kaboul now and a winger, but I feel at least one of my three wingers will be there in round 11 whereas I couldn't see the Bull lasting that time.

My team so needs me to pick up a winger in the last round to complete the formation. However after looking through a lot of teams it appears as if the majority of players are leaving the defensive positions until the later rounds so I don't envisage too many wingers being taken between my next pick.

    Foster
    Alves----Kaboul----Mertesacker
    Zabaleta
    Parker

    Modric

    Milner----Bergkamp

its been more than 24hrs since Bamboozlin went so im up, hope Noel gets his Internet back soon...

I still need a RB & a LB so with my second last pick why not get one that can cover both positions if needed and give myself an easier time next pick.

I'd also like someone who likes getting forward and can join the attack and yet someone who is obviously good at defending.

therefore ive decided to go for a multi-time capped Italian International defender who can also play on the wing if needed. Thats right my 10th draft pick is Newcastles new signing Davide Santon

Cannot believe he has not been picked yet, he's a fantastic passer, and is always liable to get goals as he has a great shot on him

Didnt receive a PM - Otherwise I could've posted late last night as I was on here fairly late.

    Alas, I'll move things on:

Seen a few people say theres very few goalkeepers left. I disagree, quite a few have slipped under the radar and I had a difficult decision to make. Not at the high point of his career anymore but certain players have been picked on either the potential they have or how their career has been not necessarily how they are now. As such, I think this pick makes sense:

    Heurelho Gomes

    gomes.jpeg

Prone to the odd error, but what keeper isn't. God even Reina makes mistakes.

You dont play a key role in 4 Champions Wins in Holland and helping Tottenham to gain entry to the Champions League for the first time ever without being a good goalkeeper. He also played a key role in PSV's road to the Semi-Finals in the CL in 2005, saving two penalties in the quarter final against Lyon.

Gomes, G. Johnson, Dawson, Skrtel, Barry, Bale, Silva, Downing, Xavi, Rush

    Lindegaard.jpg

Anders Lindegaard. He's a 6'4'' Danish international who has won goalkeeper of the year in the Norwegian league and was also awarded with the title of Danish goalkeeper of the year, both in 2010. Hence his move to Manchester United.

He is currently battling David de Gea for the number one spot at Manchester United, and has put in solid, reliable performances when he has played this season.

He is a talented goalkeeper who, in my mind, would be the number one goalkeeper at alot of Premier League clubs and I'm happy to have him.

Finishing off the outfield of my team, adding a player with a bit of versatility and ability.

    Barry+Bannan+Fulham+v+Aston+Villa+Premier+9IqFAwtRe2al.jpg

Barry Bannan of Aston Villa - can play through the centre and on the wing - puts his foot in and brilliant on the ball. Good on set pieces, great control and a great passer. delighted to have him finish off my midfield.

    Pick 10
Scott Sinclair......a hat-trick in the playoff final gave swansea a win from the ex-chelsea player and since coming up he has scored for swansea and gave them a good threat in attack.

    Pick 11
Niko Kranjcar.... A great player to get at this stage and will add creativity to my midfield would get into most centre midfields in the premiership so my team finished as:

    Given

    Richards

I suppose at this stage I really HAVE to get a keeper....

Solid PL keeper and delighted to be getting him as my last pick, to me it shows I was right to leave GK to last.

As good as any bar maybe 3 in the premiership. Delighted. Team completed.

    Kieran Gibbs

A young left back that is very good technically. Comfortable on the ball, good going forward and reliable in defense. He would be alot more recognised had he not suffered so many injuries in his career to date, but seems to have settled down as Arsenal's first choice left back this season. Also a full England international.

Sorry about the delay was on the bus from Limerick to Dublin.

This was a tough one. It may pay off, it may not but its a risk:
