What's up with the Leagues? Is there Quarter finals again, there hasn't been those in a while. Only realised that Castleknock finally are back in the League and Templeogue seem to be gone.

Ive heard they are not too bad, 2 nenagh lads will be close enough to the team this year. They play cbc monkstown in monkstown on wednesday in league 1/4

Good to hear Roscrea are starting to become consistent. I see their J's are putting up big scores aswell. 4/5 years ago it looked like they could join the lower division. Are their numbers big down there? Saw Michaels play this year and I would give them a real chance. Terenure are just too young even though I fancied them at 1 stage. Rock and Clongowes their main opponents.

220 last year could be lower

Michaels beat Blackrock 30-3 today. Michaels didn't play to their potential though, if I'm basing it on recent outings, and recent individual performances. Heavy wind played a big factor in the scoreline, would have been interesting to see both teams go at it in ideal weather. Looking like Michaels/Clongowes fight for the cup.

Terenure beat them 24-19, were fairly evenly mathed in all areas and the game had no less then 3 yellow cards, two for cbc and one for terenure

My bet would be Kilkenny, Castleknock, CBC and Zaga for senior with only possible upset coming from Roscrea over CBC

Zaga, Roscrea, newbridge and CBC. In JCT with knock in with a shout against Roscrea.

Wow, every team in Leinster seems to have a poor lineout (nure,ROCK,michaels!!) exempt for clongowes who were very good against michaels anyway but only average v rock

Clongowes hammered rock in all aspects of the game. They were utterly dominate in every facet of the game, including the line out...

38-0? What more can I say?

Pretty sure the draw is on monday or tuesday of next week..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭gfitz95

michaels beat marys today 19 6 in what was a very poor performance by their standards. Was impressed with marys though, showed a lot of pride.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭Leinster5

Watched the Michaels v Marys match. Michaels' set piece was awful. I noticed that a few players seemed to be missing for Michaels, I know they still have 3/4 players to return from injury etc. Marys made life though to be fair to them.

Anyone have an idea of when the draw is made ?

was at the michaels mary's match and was not at all impressed with the michaels team. They may have been missing 4 players i happen to know that marys were missing 6.

The ref was in favour of michaels, all of their tries coming from dodgy decisions (crossing, Knock on, Forward pass) and two of their tries came when marys were down a man due to a very harsh sin bin.

Also some of the michaels play was very dangerous and were extremely lucky to escape with yellow cards. Players were 3 times taken out in the air in the line-out in the first half and the ref gave 2 warnings where when the marys player was carded they hadnt recieved any warning.

The general consensus on this thread is that michaels wont be touched but from what i saw today they are over-hyped and in cup scenario with branch referees i think that mary's team would have taken a huge scalp.

With the cup only around the corner, and the draw being tomorrow. What are your predictions and key players ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28 WTF007

The title is Clongowes to lose with rock and michaels their biggest threat. Terenure, Kilkenny and roscrea in chasing pack

michaels will need a favourable draw to get them through the first round. 5 years in a row in the junior cup final no titles. Only one senior cup to speak of. They dont have the bottle or the pride come cup time to succeed.

Very difficult to predict without first seeing the draw. As for key players-The Byrne brothers from Clongowes, Dan Leavy from St.Michaels and Harrison Brewer from Terenure are all players with huge potential.

I think you are underestimating St.Michaels big time. They have ten Leinster interprovincials in their squad and were a shade unlucky 3 years ago in the junior cup final

If Clongowes are to win it again they will have to bridge an almost 40 year gap (Blackrock '62-'64) to the last 3-in-a-row by any school..

To be fair they bridged a gap on the double,i dont think a treble will cause much fear to them

pretty sure michaels were only missing 2 on saturday

Well I noticed that they were missing their winger, out Half and hooker from when I saw them face 'Rock a few weeks ago. Also I'm pretty sure they still have 2/3 Leinster reps out ?? Not 100% sure though. Can anyone confirm this ?

The last school to retain the cup before Clongowes did it were Blackrock in '95-'96. But for even 'Rock not to have done a 3-in-a-row for nearly 40 years shows how difficult a task it is.

I just dont think a burden of history exsists, they'll be targeting winning the cup 2012.not 10-12

True but the fact the last time any school did it was in the 60's shows how difficult it is to produce 3 cup winning teams in sucession. Even 2 in a rows are rare these days.

michaels were missing 6 probable starters on saturday 4 of which are leinster reps.

Im not disputing that its tough,im just saying a burden of history or a pressure to win 3 in a row wont hinder their chances of winning.

I dont even have a clue whos gonna win, following the form on here is impossible because a lot of posters here making excuses for players missing in each game that someone loses.

Lots of people on here putting down teams chances because there from another school. I was on the senior team last year in Michael's and go to a good few of the friendlys this year. They weren't missing six players yesterday. They were missing four, the hooker, outhalf, wing, and first centre. 3 are involved with Leinster teams. Was at the game yesterday and we played quite poor.
Think it's a toss up between CWC and Michael's but plenty of others who could challenge. Rock always turn up better for cup matches and Terenure are being put down here alot. A lot of our team(Michael's) last year were 5th years and we were the second best year in the competition after Clongowes so writting off Nure cause of there 5th years is stupid.

With the senior cup draw taking place today, Who is everyone hoping they dont get? Rumour Has It no one wants roscrea in first round.

yeah, for a small school michaels have no bottle - actually reaching 5 finals is a great record - for the size of the school - many schools have no senior cup , to speak of or not

have Roscrea a lot of last years team back ?

i would have thought no one would want rock, clongowes, michaels or nure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭Quint2010

Michaels and Clongowes seem to be the teams to avoid with Terenure just behind. Blackrock never seem to win the cup anymore unless they are favourites from the outset.

i was at the monkstown match supporting my son was playing for them. Roscrea beat us by 10points. While missing eoin mckeever. Roscrea are a strong physical side. Plus One of the parents from roscrea said there where missing 2starting players. Also there is 11 from last years them and 12 players on provincal squads. I will be following them for the cup and also my beloved monkstown

Philip O'Dwyer is back and is without a doubt the best fullback in the competition. If anyone saw him last year they can testify to that

Yeah, I saw the lad playing last year and can testify as to his supreme talent.

He has a brother in the side too doesn't he? Or was that just last year?
