    A sheet of MDF sprayed with matt black paint and frame it.

    How would normal paint respond to repeated use/washings though?
    Ronseal do a blackboard paint, I've seen it in B&Q

    As already suggested:

    Sheet of 1/2 inch MDF cut to shape

    Buy proper blackboard paint

    Paint

    Hang

    Use

    :)

    If what I wanted was that simple I wouldn't be posting a thread about it.

    I am looking for a carpenter who can make a non-orthodox blackboard with special requirements.

    Most modern blackboards are as simple as that. Unless you mean you want an "original" one, made out of black slate?
