Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, i was wondering if there are many sales in bike shops at the end of each year to make space for new stock. I was planning on splashing out on my first road bike recently but due to starting college i decided it would be best to hold off a while. If so, how much would be taken off the price tag of lets say a 'Specialised Allez'. Thanks for any replys. :)

Some bike shops have sales, but usually in winter (Jan / Feb) when nobody wants to start cycling!

The allez is only available in a few places, cycleways being the main dealer. But i wouldn't hold my breath on getting a large discount come winter.

10 to 15% is the best you could hope for off a bike, but I doubt you'd get that off the allez as its a strong seller.

Online would present far better saving right now than a sale in a bricks and mortar shop.

What about second hand, there are some steals to be had out there.

I know cycleways are doing a sale on their specialized allez.

It's Alu with carbon forks, mavic cxp22 wheels and nearly full tiagra setup is -999

Same bike as above but full 105 setup is about -1350.

Only problem is they only have specific sizes, I think they only had a 54 left maybe I needed a 58 and they didn't have, don't think they had 56 either.

You can get very lucky either by buying a mint end of season race bike second hand, or by holding out til near or after christmas and buying "last year's model" at a discount, which can often just be a different colour scheme.

You have to be on the ball though, and be a bit lucky with sizes. So know your size etc in advance and be ready to pounce on a bargain!

I was in the same position last year. Was looking at a Trek 1.2 in the LBS with Shimano Sora setup (possibly a Tiagra rear mech for all the difference it would've made). Was looking at around the €900 mark for the Trek I think. Ended up getting a 2010 Cube Agree on CRC for not much more, had 33% discount and had an extra 10% loyalty discount at the time. Ended up getting a bike with RRP around €1700 with full Ultegra for similar price to the Trek. But like was mentioned above you need to be ready to pounce cos the popular sizes are swept up pretty quick. Was around November last year I think when the offers were on.

1350 for a Alu bike with 105 is not good value. You could get a carbon planet x with rival for that. AFAIK the focus cayo full carbon with 105 is only 1100 (wheels aren't as good, but thats what the extra 250 is for!)

That's why I'm gonna buy the planet x carbon with rival myself ;)
