What qualifications are required to act as a sub or part time in Ireland, UK and/or US?

It used to be quite easy to sub in Ireland and no qualifications were often required as subs frequently werent expected to teach the class. However recently there are many many qualified teachers looking for work so you would need to be a fully qualified teacher to get sub work in most instances now Id imagine.
I dont know about the UK or USA.

A degree is the basic requirement. PGDE is pretty much going to be a necessity from now on. From September, principals have to be able to show how they have tried and failed to get a fully qualified sub before employing someone who is unqualified (ie doesn't have the PGDE). If someone with the PGDE is available to work while an unqualified sub is in place, the principal has 5 days to give that person the job!!!!
