Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nitrates Statement

Just something that caught my eye on another post about a REPS inspection,

Got the interim Nitrogen statement in the post last week, according to it I'll be at 175Kgs of N per HA for cattle only by december which is over the 170Kg limit.

has anyone on here been over the limit? and how has the Dept dealt with it? I know you can get a derogation to 250kgs but is it much hassle or is it more for Dairy men.

the funny thing is I actually have a good bit more land taken but the landowner refuses to let me use the maps even though he's not drawing any SFP on it so I can't use it.

I'll probably reduce the stocking level to get me out of it this year but was just curious if anyone had gone through any hassle with it.

Im constantly over the limits, there are a couple of ways around it, export slurry to a herd under 170kgs, temporary movement of animals for grazing else where, B & B arrangements etc or seek a derogation. the derogation is all well and good but 80% of the land area has to be in grass which rules it out for me. Dept are easy up till now to deal with. County Councils are NOT, especially your enforcement authority

    Thanks lads,
Yea leg wax I thought from your post on the Reps inspection that you'd be pinged on the Nitrates aswell.
As regards the temp grazing what do they look for? just a written confimation signed by both parties or is it maps aswell?

seems there is always some bloody regulation just around the corner to bite me;)

too late to apply for a derogation, you will have to export slurry, reduce herd, etc. REPs arent allowed 170 as far as I know

ah sounds like you will be grand so, if they have applied for the derogation. The Nitrates laws are such a pain for anyone half intensive, also allot depends on the attitude of your County Council. Mine hang around farms like a bad smell

Hi dozer, check your herd profile against what cattle you actually have. I did a herd test recently and a cow showed up that we slaughtered last sept, still on my profile! Also check to see if anything died and is still on your profile.

How d fcuk are we meant to keep on top of the bloody paperwork if dept prix don't keep their end sorted.....

they are demanding nutrient management plans for each year who ever they choose, I have submitted numerous (paperwork exercise), constantly calling to some farms in the county, and using bullsh*t terms like "could have the potential to pollute". seems the word "potentially" is a word they seem to get off on

    .
Just a quick point dozer. You are obliged to declare all the land you farm and include the maps on your SFP form. A neighbour get in deep crap last year for doing what you have done so be careful what you write or say about it.

Totally agree 5live but unfortunately this country is so screwed up its amazing, I know alot of people are doing there best to expand and the limiting factor in alot of cases is access to land.
Ends up that as everyone knows you have guys letting land while claiming the SFP for themselves.
My situation with this place is the guy is just an oddball....or maybe it takes one to know one:confused:

Either way i'm not too heavily stocked so I'll just cut back abit.
