Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Derailers type conundrum!

    Okay so Im going buying a new derailer but one thing I never understood about rear derailers is; whats the difference between a short and medium cage?

    Hope someone can explain:D

    The longer the cage, the more chain-slack the mech take take up.

    Wide-ratio cassettes or triple front derailleurs often require a long (or mid) cage mech.

    AFAIK, A triple front chainset requires a long cage rear derailleur whereas a double front chainset requires a short cage rear derailleur.

    Just to clear things up road mechs (well Shimano any way) come in short and medium cage and MTB mechs come in medium and long cage. :)
