Hey there, it's time to do some upgrades :)

This is what I want to buy. Can anyone out there spot anything that would be better then these components for around the same price (A bit over is ok)

The components i list are the only ones I want to upgrade right now.

    Total build cost: €273.21 + €30 shipping
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W €52.06
    Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3, AMD 770, AM3 ATX €80.57
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Box, Sockel AM3 €97.75
    8GB-Kit G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-12800U CL9 €42.83

What I am most interested is in if for around the same price or up too 100 euro what motherboard would you recommend? The one I added is really just a place mark.

Also the ram, for the price could I get better faster ram? what about this I know it says it's for intel but that cant be can it? I didn't know ram was bound to certain CPU types.

You're right, RAM isn't bound to CPU types. That RAM will work with an AMD CPU, it's even listed in the "Details" section.

Just get the cheapest RAM you can find from a decent brand (Avoid OCZ, their DDR3 is notoriously bad). You're not going to notice the minimal performance improvements that faster RAM will get you. A lot of it is marketed towards gamers with high disposable income who don't know better.

That motherboard seems like a solid choice, but I'll let someone more knowledgeable weigh in.

This is a recommended MB on another forum I read, and it's slightly cheaper: http://www1.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=47596&agid=1232

would you consider an i5 -2400 and a h61 motherboard? it won't allow any OC but will be much better at stock and still beat the 965 with a good OC!

if you stick with AMD be sure to get a socket AM3+ motherboard for future proofing bulldozer.

You could save €6 and get the 955. Not much difference between them.

What features are important to you in the motherboard? Onboard GPU? Crossfire?

I would at least be looking at AM3+ boards to support AMD's new processors.

I have a phenom II 965 and find it to be a great chip. I have had it at 4ghz but run it at 3.6ghz at the moment. I run this in an Asus crosshair iv which I think is going to be able to run the bulldozer cpu with a BIOS upgrade.

I have read a good number of reviews of the AM3+ MB and they have not gone too well. The only ones scoring well (all be it with a AM3 socket chip) are the expensive sabertooth and crosshair V.

Edit: Just noticed the price on that RAM. Didnt realise they gone so cheap

Good to know :) I don't think i will have need to overclock though!

Anyone got any recommendations on an am3+ board for under 100 bucks?
