    If a crime was committed 5 years ago with medical records to prove it is it too late to pursue legal proceedings or at least have the Gardaí log a record of it?

    It it is an indictable crime there is no time limit.

    But there will need to be an explanation for the delay. And if you report it to the Gardaí you must be willing to proceed with any prosecution. You can't just report things to help you prove facts in a civil/family case. Your medical records alone should be sufficient for that.
