What tools/equipment do I need to use to disconnect the cable coming from my UPC modem that is plug/screwed into the little adapter thing they have. I'm moving house and the UPC guys on the phone said you can just unscrew the modem and bring it to your new house, but I forgot to ask if I need anything special to unscrew the cable.

A pliars will do it :) Sometimes you'll be able to unscrew it by hand, but a pliars is a good option also, just unscrew the coax cable from the wall point

I don't have pliars but is there anything else I could use that would be in the house that might do the trick?
