The Hall / Stairs / Landing wall on my Semi D is external and so I am considering Dry Lining it. It is made from Cavity Blocks.

    1. What would the current loss be approximately - 35% ???

    2. If I installed Dry Lining with 25mm insulation, how much would this figure come down by ?

    3. And if I installed 35mm instead ?

championc, please see http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055832927 as regards your numbered points
1 & 2. ??? 35% of what. you can't get an answer like this:confused: get a BER done or figure it out yourself http://www.seai.ie/
    3. according to J.Little (there isn't much studies to contradict him) interstitial condensation happens on internal walls like yours at circa 0.5w/m2k... you should be safe enough at 25mm insulation board BUT
using this link, calculate your walls U-v http://www.environ.ie/en/Publications/DevelopmentandHousing/BuildingStandards/FileDownLoad,27316,en.pdf
@ 35mm you may be getting over this .5w/m2k figure

I prefer using an insulation like a hemp or timber insulation board (between timber stud & plaster board) as a partial solution in cav block 50-80's homes but imho why not save up and do this properly by getting your walls insulated externally by a reputable company

    Thanks BryanF,

I was just looking at Google Images for a general guideline for heat loss through walls. So if I lost 30% - 35% of my house heat through an uninsulated cavity block wall, can someone give me an idea of a new aproximation - 10, 15, 20 or 25 ???

If I currently spend €1k on gas per annum, my worry is that if I only save €100 per annum, then it would take over 50 years to pay for External Insulation. So I'd prefer to do the Dry Lining myself at about €500 which is an easier outlay to justify. However, I wouldn't bother with this option if it was only likely to save me €20 per year.
