Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi!

I'm heading over to your lovely country to do some work (not photography) and during my travels I'll be up in Buncrana in Donegal then two days later I have to be in Westport in Co Mayo. Looking at google maps it would seem that I'll be driving through a particularily beautiful part of the country. I am going to take the day off in between these two clients and hope to find some nice landscape scenery to shoot.

So does anyone have any advice on where to stop and stay over night and where to go looking for nice locations? I was thinking of driving down to westport immediately after my buncrana job and scouting around seascapes/landscapes down there.

Any ideas gratefully accepted!....and if anyone knows any decent hotels around there that would be great as well!

    Thanks

    Gordon

Have a look over at Achill which is near enough to Westport. It has some beautiful cliffs, mountains and a great view.

doo lough - about 40/45 mins from westport - has some fantastic brooding scenery.

Before you go south from Buncrana, head north and check out Inishowen. It's a beautiful peninsula with a lot of gorgeous beaches and headlands.

if you decide to go to achill from westport, make sure you stop off between newport and mullranney, there's loads of little un-sign-posted roads off to the left where you have great vantage points over the bay. on achill itself if you have enough time you could head to keem. it's a little secluded cove that you drive down into with lots of photo ops on the way. [including the sheep that pose for tourists :p] and keel which you pass on the way is also wide and expansive and very photogenic.

to be honest you could spend a week photographing mayo and not see half of it. gimme a PM if you like and i can point you to some more spots.

climb croagh patrick, super views over clew bay and the plains of mayo.
even if u climb part of the way up , still makes for great shots , all u need is a clear day

Its a lovely drive in itself if you are not under time pressure.

You have Inch Island and the lough (Swilly) on your right hand side as you head towards Letterkenny from Buncrana. If you then head for Donegal town you will have some lovely mountain scenery on the way and Lough eask. Heading down towards Bundoran I have no recollection at all but not to far ahead after Bundoran you will be into Yeats Country with the majestic Ben bulben

Depending on you time the coastline around the part Westport 0f Mayo is stunning. A trip out to Achill on one side and Murrisk and Louisburg in the other direction will give you plenty of photo opportunities from the beautiful Atlantic drive on Achill to famiine memorial, Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick.

You will be visitingTwo of the nicest parts of this great little country

Head to louisburgh if you can some great beaches, also the drive from there to
Lenanne is stunning, at the other end eat in The Red Door in Fahan or Harry's in Brigend for the best of local produce, a trip into Derry would also be good!
