Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

oh okay awesome :D I'm doing PPES how about you guys? where are you coming from dolce? I don't even know where to start. How many people you looking to share with?
I'm doing history! Sweet I know a guy doing PPES! Same...prob daft.ie/collegecribs.ie! Emm...not sure really! What you reckon?

Right now I'm not too bothered about how many I'm sharing with - I spose anything from 3-6 would great! I live down in Cork as well (not in the city though - down west)...and am totally new to Dublin. I'm studying History & French :) Well...I'm thinking of heading up to the accommodation office at some point this week and seeing what they say; also could try and find some places online and check them out...are you in England atm?

Awesome I've been talking to another girl on here who is doing history who is also looking for accommodation with other freshers :) She has been looking on daft and suggested that if we get a group together we could all look for a place to share? She also rang the accommodation office and said it would be a good idea to be quite close to trinity hall so we could still get involved in all the events and stuff there. That sounded like quite a good idea to me. yayy I finally know of someone who is doing my course! I'm getting a bit excited again after my initial i'm gunna be living out of a cardboard box panic :D During my first year I really wanna be living with other freshers and not end up living with like three 4th years or postgrad students.

Haha yeah I've been to dublin once for about 12 hours. You're all doing history! I feel a bit left out :P Yeah I'm still in London, working everyday till the 15th so I actually have no idea how i'm going to be able sort this all out. I'd like to be able to visit the student unions accommodation advisory service because they don't have an email address or anything really so that I can contact them from here.

dont get it, i said id prefer a twin, and id be willing to live in a mixed gender apartment and in not even from the republic and i still didnt get a place.

Same, I said I was willing to share but didn't get a place. I was originally told I was going to have a good chance but I rang today again and was told it is completely random.

Fortunately, they also told me that there are a few people who got shared but don't want them so they may drop out.

I just think staying in Hall would make things a lot easier rather than going into private accommodation at the moment. Even for the first two semesters would do.

Yeah I think Rathmines-ish area seems like a good place to look (close to town, loads of shops, safe, studenty etc etc); having had the briefest of looks on Daft seems to be a fair amount of properties around; defo a good idea to get a group together, the more sharing the more affordable it is - I would also prefer to be with freshers to avoid feeling kinda 'out of it'. Lol, a lot of homeless history students then! Had exactly the same panic but, I think it'll be really good once the whole accommodation issue is resolved. Well, I've been about 3 times in my life and not for a while so...in the same boat really! So what now, should we form a group and start the search?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12 dublin newbie

hello! I thought i'd just say hi! Im the girl lovetay was talking about.. and this group thing sounds like a fantastic idea.
I am very very keen on getting involved with other freshers so this sounds perfect.
I am from england - studying history - and have been to dublin once last summer for a weekend break and fell in love!

Very excited especially now this accommodation seems to be coming together a bit more

Cool, where in England are you from? So...what next...is there now an actual group or?!

On the site it says my application hasn't been reviewed yet. I applied before the 26th but my number isn't on the list :S

I'm from the north and chose that i'd prefer to share and i'd be willing to be in a mixed gender apartment so i thought i'd have a really good chance, i'm super confused can someone help me out? :S

Same with me! I'm living in Mayo so I thought that'd mean I had a fairly good chance of getting Halls, but I don't think I'm on either of the provisional lists. Does anyone know if you get an email regardless of whether your application is accepted or declined, or is it only if you're accepted? According to the actual accommodation page my application has not yet been reviewed, but surely they're leaving it a bit late now?

Great!!! Me too, so who else is up for it? Once we have a definitive group we need to resolve one small issue...where we're going to live! Should we swap f/book details?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 Stratercastguy

I'm an international student and I'm not on the list either so I'm quite put out! Anyone willing to share with an 18 year old, male, welsh, music student let me know!

Ok I've PM'd you! How many do you think would be a good sized group - and how exactly do we manage this as we can't meet up?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 lovetay

Umm 4-6 maybe? I know we've got atleast 3 maybe four at the moment. I have no clue I think we need to get a proper group together and actually talk about what we all want and then see? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 130 ✭✭not_so_civil

    Count me in for this.
Is it just me or is it mostly people from furthest away that didn't get in? like mayo, donegal, cork, northern ireland and england? You'd think people from those areas would get some sort of perferance

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 lovetay

yayy, kayy so pm me facebook details and we can set up some sorta group?

Could I join? I might still be getting a room in hall but in the meantime I'm keeping my options open :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 DolceFarNiente

Well there are defo enough people for a house now! @not so civil I know!!! It's really odd that we're all from places far from Dublin...though, I suppose that' might be the reason we're on here in the first place...

  • Registered Users Posts: 142 ✭✭Raawron

Can i join? really need a place to stay lol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 DolceFarNiente

Yeah sure don't see why not! - well I don't know really who's organising it/how to actually make this happen/whether 'it' exists in reality...but I'm sure someone will figure out a way to work this :) I think once it starts feeling more concrete it'll be easier...@Raawron what course are you doing (that is, if you find somewhere to sleep!)?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12 dublin newbie

If anyone thats interested in this sends their fb via pm to either me or lovetay than we could sort out a fb inbox convo

I have found a few properties for 6 people that look nice i think but it would be great to all talk properly about what we all want

Pharmacy, i reaaaly wanted the halls experience but living with 5 other like minded freshers should be a blast :D

I'm also in need of a place as I have had no luck with Hall if there's room in your group, if not, it's sweet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 DolceFarNiente

Ah cool I'm doing history/french, yeah I think so too - missing halls is v annoying but it could actually turn out really well, I think as long as you're with freshers it'll be a similar thing! @ dublin newbie I've PMd my facebook details to you...I'm going up to Dublin this week so can check out houses?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 firstofthegang

I just mailed my fb to Dublin Newbie, so if I could get in on this (whatever 'this' turns out to be) that's brilliant! I'm really stuck otherwise. Cheers!

No, there's too many applying for the list. Ring them up and ask them have they gotten your email about it, and ask them if they've had any cancellations etc.

Anyone else gone for Griffith halls?

I'm trying to decide if I should or not, I know there aren't many places left! It's just if something else came up, that'd be my second deposit lost, and I just couldn't afford that!

Yeah I already lost mine from UCD.....I just went for Griffith after I emailed the warden at trinity hall and he said to sort other accommodation as halls is full and cancellations are unlikely to supply got demand!

Ha I'm in the exact same position, my deposit was from ucd! did you get a second round cao offer? ya it all comes down to whether you can hold out and see if anything comes up in halls, but its really hit or miss

Awesome! Both got ripped off by UCD whooooo! :P yeah I got TCD 2nd round! What course you doing now? Yeah Griffith basically said they are nearly full but that could either be true or them trying to get people into rooms! True!
