Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

how much should a bike service run you? roughly? I bought a bike about 3 months ago and have been doing about 100k a week, maybe I should drop it in for a service at this stage.

    thanks

6 weeks is typical for the first service. The cabling stretches and things can come out of alignment, so the first service tweaks everything back together. I honestly have no idea how much it should cost or how often to get it done as I do all my work myself, as it's needed.

Many, if not most shops give you a free service when you buy the bike - i.e. they tell you to bring it back in after a couple of months for a free tune-up.

If you bought the Bike from new you should get the first service free. I do about 400KM per week and do some servicing myself, when It needs a full strip down I would recommend Bike Hub in Howth...€80-€100 , depending on what needs doing.

hmmm I can be handy enough, can you recommend a source or book on servicing a bicycle?

I think I was entitled to a free service but I have missed the 8 week window.

they should still honor it even though you could have missed the 8 week mark, YouTube is a great source for tutorials as is the Parktools website.

If you get a free service, its the labour thats free not the parts.

... but any parts that wear out or break within 2-3 months should certainly be replaced or repaired free under warranty (unless the damage is caused by accident)
