What is a registration fee?

    A dance class for kids is opening up in the village & it's €6 a lesson but they require €20 registration fee. I'm just wondering what this charge is generally for? I'm assuming it has to be for more than actually registering.

    its a nice way of extracting more money from you without you thinking the course costs x amount.
    I presume in this case, they probably get people coming along for 1-2 lessons so they can make sure they get a worthwhile amount off someone if they bail

    Usually, it's to cover insurance, building rental, etc.

    There are a lot of costs associated with courses like this - public liability insurance, administrative costs. Charging a registration fee is a way of covering this cost.
