Big spiders Galway?

So I'm living in Galway a couple of years now, and I've never seen any big spiders. I'm a bit of an arachnophobe, btw. The speed of those big lads is incomprehensible! Honest to god! Lightening fast! Which is the last thing we need when trying to wallop them!

I find all spiders behave the same when you bother them. The first time you prod them they will freeze up, completely still. However, the second (or sometimes third) prod invariably results in them running like the clappers of hell to the nearest place of shelter.
