    Hi all

Been a while upgrading, so I ask your expert option

Looking to go Intel route and Core i7-2600K.

    Looking for best options for the following parts;

    z68 Chipset mobo
    - Thinking ASUS P8Z68-PRO ? - 160 komplett
    CPU FAN
    - thoughts? but needs to be quiet - willing to spend a bit more for low DBa
    PC3-15000 1866MHz8G RAM
    - thoughts?

I have an old enermax 450W PSU with 30Amps @ 5V and hope that will do - I think I need a 20-pin to 24-pin conversion - will this work?

    Thanks
    James.

What are you using the computer for? The only advantage the 2600k has over the 2500k is hyperthreading, which only a few programs will take advantage of.

No need for 1866 RAM as well when 1333 has almost the same performance.

For the fan, it depends on how much overclocking you plan to do, the Mugen 3 is pretty good value at the moment.

You should probably get a better PSU, what graphics card do you have? Having amps on the +3.3 and +5V rails is almost useless for modern machines, practically everything is on the 12V rail now.

    Get a Noctua CPU cooler.
Depending on your needs and budget you can chose from the d14, d12, d9 and the c14.
They're all really good and really silent coolers.

    Thanks folks

I have a GTX460. I use the computer for home video transcoding, some art, but stress it mostly by gaming.

If you're into transcoding and video editing then the i7 is what you need.
If you're into gaming, get the i5.
If you're into both, get the i7 I guess as hyperthreading makes big difference to video transcoding and rendering times as most video editing softwares make use of hyperthreading and its no better than i5 at playing games.

GTX460 is a good card but you should get a bigger PSU.

    Thanks for that.

Any suggestions for mobo, ram and fan brands/models?

Unless you need it for quicksync, a P67 is cheaper than a Z68 board. Seeing as you do some video stuff I went with the 2600k, but you can change it to the 2500k if its not that important to you. I would go with something like this:

    Total build cost: €444.94 + €30 shipping
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9 €31.61
    ASRock P67 Pro3 (B3), Sockel 1155, ATX €83.63
    Intel Core i7-2600K Box, LGA1155 €253.74
Scythe Mugen 3, für alle Sockel geeignet €34.95
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W €41.01

    Thanks for that !!

I see the site is from Germany - is there a reason for that particular one?

Its one of the cheapest :)

You can check out scan.co.uk as well, they usually have similar enough prices, especially with the pound being so weak atm.

Coz Ireland is ridiculously expensive and you will save money by ordering from a country that doesn't like to rip it's citizens off :P

In other words its very cheap and has got great service.
