Extremely heavy rain here, the red bit over kilkenny in the picture below is deserving of bluey green status i think! Haven't seen prolonged rain like this since february I think.

Can't remember such intense rain lasting this long before. Were some massively intense over the last 6 weeks here but today is something else altogether. Anyone got a dummy's guide to what's causing it? If it's a front it's the biggest or slowest moving I've ever seen. :pac:

I'm guess its the result of cooler air hitting a large body of stationary warm air. If you look at the rainfall radar animation the front is being pushed south to north rather than west to east so everyone is getting a damned good soaking (more annoying is that most of Britain shall hardly get any of this I suspect. BBQs all round then!)

Tell me about it and it's starting to get heavy again now, I'm at 57mm now  If I wasn't here all day I would be thinking my rain gauge is reading wrong.

Good job I got the grass cut this morning :)

Glad we didn't, the garden is flooded enough with the long grass, hate to see it on bald ground. :pac:

Seems to have almost stopped for now, air is just very heavy.

Dad was driving around earlier, just a bit of road flooding, nothing serious. Really rain should never (except maybe in freak high-intensity events) cause flooding here with sensible precautions being so close to the sea.

Another very heavy shower passing over south Dublin at the moment. It's very loud against the velux windows, I hope I can sleep with it!
There's been a lot of rain in this part of Dublin since I arrived here at 9 this evening.
