have to say i think here in the south east it will be a bit of a non event the winds we had yesterday from the first low will probably be stronger than what we get tonight/tomorrow. sounds like the west and north could be hit hard hope veryone out there stays safe

well we have had strong winds and some big gusts constantly since friday here in galway!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

A fairly decent shift to the east at 18 hours but less intense than the 06Z.

    GFS 12z UPGRADE of sorts

Downgrades intensity again, but i think delays the intensifications.

Places center decent bit further south. Also accelerates its track east.

    Big change for so close.

Recommended action - Look at the satellite pics!

Further south but weaker, central pressure only 975 now. Should affect more of the country but not as strong for those of us in the north west

12z doesnt get the storm much below 970mbar and filling as approaching Scotland to just sub 975mb

    Wind field more expansive.

More widespread gusts but less intense across the northwest districts.

Fairly calm here in Sligo at the moment........ .......... ..........

Its very like a lovely autumn evening here in West Limerick.

Nice and breezy, dry (been a great day for getting the washing dry!) and grey. All we're missing are the leaves falling off the trees and the lovely brown colours they turn during autumn.

Gonna start monitoring the sat pics and Met Eireann weather radar, keeping fingers crossed for some pretty nice winds (and of course everybody staying safe).

Feels a bit like snow watch during the winter, hope there are no wind shields deployed ;):D

ala 12z i would expect more widespread gusts above 60mph inland over Ireland. Northern Ireland will see more widespread gusts to 75mph even inland. 80mph along coasts.

The considerable changes on the GFS between 12Z and 6Z at 0-24 hours just shows how uncertain the exact track/intensity/speed of this is.

Yea, the speed difference is very big. The 6z had this moving alot slower east. Sig differences for such a small timeframe.

The wind's definitely picking up here in Cork City at the moment. There's a kind of strange blustery quality to it.

Any idea what time the Katia system is due to be over us / near us?

    NAE 12z

Again further south and again showing the storm losing a few MB's.

Widespread high winds. Gusts inland 60-70mph. Upto 80mph on coasts of the northwest and north.

We are currently between stage 1 and 2 with a classic hammer head cloud structure appearing in satellite imagery.

This link shows a nice development of what your talking about

    http://www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html

    I think :pac:

The Met Eireann rainfall radar shows some rain sweeping in from the south west at the moment too.

What's the best place to be tomorrow at 10am then, will Achill Island be enough or should we aim further north like Malin Head?

pretty much no wind here right now, dry and not much of a cloud in sight. Off for a couple of pints, I hope to see 60 knots and lashing rain upon my return :)

Right now, I'd say Erris Head between 8-9am. But the speed and track of this thing is not certain yet.
