Hi guys, I've been looking through past threads about Perth for the last few days and just want to get a few things cleared up if that's possible?

Myself and the girlfriend are living in Sydney at the moment. We like it but we're not finding it amazing or anything. We both have jobs although not in the field we'd like but it still pays enough for rent, food, and drinks so can't really complain.

However, we're starting to feel like it might be time to move on. We were considering moving to Perth at the beginning of October, staying for a few months and then maybe doing some travelling. So just a couple of questions for anyone who can help:

Neither of us can drive, is it really that difficult to live in Perth with no car?

Would it be easy enough to get a job in Perth? (I've been working as a temp in an office in Sydney for the past 3 months so something similar would be fine, girlfriend works in retail)

What is the rental situation like in Perth, difficult to find a place?

Is there much of a difference between the wages in Sydney and Perth? I know the cost of renting is a bit less but does cost of living work out the same when you compare wages?

Is it handy enough to go to/live near the beach in Perth? Summer is on it's way!

Any advice at all would be much appreciated,
    Cheers

No. The train system is fantastic if you live close to a station. Do that and you're sorted. I recommend either the Joondalup or Fremantle lines as starting points.

The bus system is not so crash hot but decent enough if you're close to the city.

Easy to get a job but not necessarily easy to get one in your chosen field. No different to most places really.

Depends really. It's not hard to get 'somewhere' but it really depends on your own standards. Obviously you will be restricting yourself if you have to live close to good public transport.

I've no issues with cost of living and I'm on a slightly above average salary. Depends again on your expectations but it's very easy to be comfortable imo.

Depends on where you're living. If you look at a map, any suburbs betwen the Mitchell Freeway (north of the city) and the sea are ideal in terms of both beach and public transport location.

Looking south/west, the likes of Cottesloe are beside the beach and also on the train line.

Avoid anything east imo if you want easy access to the beach with no car.

We dont live in Perth - we are living in Canberra - ROLL on the summer is all I say - there ar e a couple of websites out there which will give you loads of info about perth. try pomsinoz and perthpoms - there are lots of Irish people on there too who can give you advice. My hubbys brother is living in Perth at the moment (single mid 20's and he finds it pretty boring) having said that he is probably looking for the party life and is going to head to Melbourne shortly. I think Perth would be alot quieter than sydney but deffo have a look at those sites

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. Now if only I wasn't so useless at making decisions I'd be laughin!

Cottesloe looks really nice, might be a good option. I guess I'll have to just make my way over to Perth and have a look around. It's great to hear about the car situation, most people are fairly negative about it but I'm no newcomer to public transport and so far I've survived without driving.

As regards being bored, everyone says Perth is quiet but I'm not exactly the type to go out clubbing every weekend. As long as there's good weather and a few beers to be had I'm happy out!

I will definitely check out those sites to get more info and make my decision more difficult!

It depends on your definition of quiet. If you like nightclubs that open until 4 or 5 in the morning, beachside pubs with Sunday sessions and a casino then tat's Perth really so not really too dull!

Cannot argue with beach side Sunday sessions...........
