Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anybody know if the sportive is going ahead this year and what date it is on?

I promised a buddy I'd do the velvet strand triathlon (shameful I know) but if the club sportive is on that Sunday he can whistle dixie!

    From the website:
    23 days until
    Annual Sportive (T.B.C.)
So it looks like it's on the 25th, but that's not officially confirmed (yet!), although I've not seen anything to indicate any other possible date

I was going to do the Dying Sow on the 24th but I might rethink that plan if this is going ahead. I won't be out on the club spin tomorrow so any info would be welcome.

Hi All, I can confirm the SwordsCC Sportive will go ahead this year.

The route is the same as last year and you'll find more info Here

    thanks

realy enjoyed it last year , second bunch heading off, even though our group of about 12, took a wrong turn near the start, because we followed trialthlon markings at a junction, and one of ours bust a gut to catch up and tell us. .......

we went wrong again later on, and on turning around, headed up a hill to a food station near a quarry i think, overlooking the irish sea and clear views of cooley peninsula.

organising a few lads to come along...

never crossed a motorway so many times in a sportive.. twas making me dizzy !!!

I did a small portion of it today. There are some nasty walls in there.

Interested in doing this , where is the Bog Berg ? Is it the hill from Ring Common to Belgee.

    I think so.

This is slightly off topic (I think); How come a licence is required? I thought sportives were "all in" type things.

Can't make this anyway though I would have been interested. Fighting the night before. Probably wont be able to walk, let alone cycle. :D

I was of the belief that the bogberg was the climb that leads from the bog to halfway up the climb of the Walshestown Road ie on the bog road coming from the the Sports Centre the first left hand turn ( I think one of the Balbriggan races come down it). It is ,as stated a true berg, very short with a very steep section.

I thought that was the same place, but I sometimes struggle to find the kitchen from the living room.

AFAIK Belgee is the is the road that leads from the top of the Naul Hill (heading outta Naul towards B'bougil take a left) down to the bridge. At the bridge take a left for the bog. Take a right and up to Walshestown.

it looks a very complicated route but a very good one. Would any of you swordonians have it in text format?

I think it would be a good training ride in Jan.

I think it can be condensed down to "the 10 hillocks of NCD" - you need to come along to work out exactly whowhat the 10 hillocks are;)

Since it's just up the road I may head along to this depending on how bad I feel on the morning - looks an amazing chance to log Strava times for every single hill in north Dublin :pac: Pity I've an LSR the day before (damn marathon) so they'll be ****e times, but still!

The Sportive is on and will be on the Sunday the 25th of September.
It will be a little different this year and the details are below

This is a 10 hill challenge that will be approximately 130kms. Think you know North County Dublin? Well this route will confirm it and afterwards give all a few idea's for that testing sunday run in the middle of winter.

The hills included in the Sportive are as follows and not in any specific order:

    The Man-o-war ( an aperatif )
Ardla ( from the bridge at Skerries )
Bellewstown to Snowtown Cross ( a little lumpy)
    The Jack Stones
Alp d'Bellew ( tightens on some of the corners at the top)
The Coombes Connor ( a Classic and as wide as a flandrian lane, Paul Deans can confirm)
Hill Town, ( Up to the middle of the race course)
The Naul Telegraph ( Straight up )
The Bog Berg ( The legs know why )
The Resevoir Dog ( Now repaired and worth inclusion)
    The Nags Head.

Start and Finish from Ballyboghill GAA club

    Sign on from 0830.
    First riders away at 0900.
There will be a refreshment stop at Bellewstown race course.
Loads of Gels drinks bars etc.

I have changed the route slightly and added and extra "lump" before the end. not is the time to get one back on your mates.

Looking forward to it too! Haven't been on the bike for more than 35km in the last month so should be interesting!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Hungrycol

Considering doing this too but have no mileage in my legs what so ever. I'm gonna be flattened after 20kms! Oh well. Ireland Russia KO at 6pm 25th, right? Gonna be a good day.....

The cost is that you have to bear witness to Raam's terrible taste in cycling socks :pac:

Enough to drive even the mildest mannered of us mad :pac:
