how long does it take for grass to rot

I'm talkin about the pile I have at the bottom of the garden after a summer of mowing, how long before this is topsoil?

it won't turn to topsoil; at best it'll turn to compost.
topsoil includes lots of mineral and clay components, which the grass won't have.

grass cutting will turn into compost in about one year, but you should mix it up couple of time during a year. later you can use it as a compost, or mixed with top soil and have good quality top soil

If you leave it in a heap , you will be left with a slimey mess, add some soil and turn it a few times and it will compost.:P
