Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, I'm calling out to anyone who can suggest songs that are suitable for an interfaith welcome service for first year students in a multi-denominational school. I will appreciate any help on this!! Thanks :)

Hmm, tricky..Does the music have to omit any reference to god? Is pop music out?

If it's an inter-faith service why can there be no mention of God?

    Heya,
From reading the opening post two things strike me. The first is that it is an interfaith service and secondly that it is in a multi-denominational setting. Both of these allow for references to God in the music that is chosen in that you would have stipulated non-denominational if no faith references at all were requested.

Therefore you can use hymns that do not make specific reference to a particular denomination but have theistic references. The quickest example is my favourite is be not afraid which makes no reference to Jesus and so could be used for any religion which has a belief in a deity which promulgates the immanence theory. A great many hymns are also very acceptable to the Abrahmic faiths, Judaism, Christianity of all sects and Islam. As I said, most other faiths can find elements to respect.

There are also a plethora of songs that you could use which are good and if you want to go down the "cool" route which is also respectful.

    Creed- Most of them.
    Lifehouse - Most of them.
The Fray - Most of them.
Nancy Griffith - From a distance.
Louis Armstrong - What a wonderful world.

There really are a multitude of songs that can be incorporated to enhance a service like you are suggesting.

    Good luck.
