It's not really gonna be something a paper would print unless it effected the whole of Xbox live I would say...(like the psn debacle)

I wouldn't say a couple of hundred xboxes affected would be enough to print a story on it, but unless MS admit it officially, then it may be news worthy...

still no response from MS on either side of the pond

Wow. That was a long read. Was hoping to find something new but alas it's the same speculation I've been seeing all over.

I feel for you North. I'm in the same boat. Pretty sure we've crossed paths over the last week. I'm in a similar pickle with the exceptions of only having one console, being the only user of said console, and having nothing written in my motto/bio.

I'm convinced it's a false flag from the DVD drive thinking that legit games are pirated copies.

Some where in the first pages of this thread someone mentioned that MS had probably implemented a strategy to clean up the network. (anti-piracy?) That this method was right 97% of the time and that MS would have evaluated the erroneous 3% as acceptable damage. Although the numbers may be fictious I'm lead to believe that this concept is probably very close to having hit the nail on the head.

I'd also like to raise a few questions concerning this stance: "MS doesn't make mistakes and doesn't unban consoles. They do multiple inquiries and are always 100% sure before banning a console."
If we assume that the unbanning part is correct and that MS have a brick wall stance on anything concerning console bans. How does one know they never make mistakes? Although they claim to have evidence they never show any. Other than the written word in the ToU has anyone ever, anywhere, seen any concrete evidence from MS for a console ban?

Because it's safe to assume that out of the hundreds of thousands of people who have been console banned, the OP isn't the first user to publicly post about it, sure he hasn't broken the ToS and be willing to go the legal route which would force MS to issue an unban if they had made a mistake. :)

Saw this and thought of you. Could be a lot of people eating some humble pie if this is true.

    @north1 -

Well I went back to college today, was chatting to one of the lads in college at break and he was telling me he started working in Xbox support, so we were chatting about xbox and I brought up your ban with him, explained about the zombie pack etc, to which he told me that loads of consoles that bought said pack were done wrongly for marketplace theft due to a bug on their end, apparently they aren't allowed to discuss bans with customers and they (MS) are going to sort it, they won't go public with it at the moment as they don't know how many were/are affected by it... And as you can imagine, MS are a bit red faced over it!

Take from that what you will but sounds accurate to me...
This is purely speculation (read: BS) on your friend's part. We've been told nothing here, and it's safe to say if we had then at least one of the several support staff who are on here, myself included, would have said something. I'm not taking sides here, just letting people know the facts.

Is that who Helix writes for? I sure hope that was written with more evidence other than the poster here who claimed he had a friend in support, and the video posted where someone with Black Ops maps got banned. Hardly concrete sources.

Well, someone called him Pete on the last page, so I assume he wrote it. I'd love to hear the sources.

    That is some terrible journalism.

You ran a story based on unsubstantiated rumours posted on an anonymous online forum.

its video games, not the feckin pulitzer prize

also, its not anonymous since i actually know fielddog in person

as i said, its just a way of trying to get a comment out of microsoft, dont put too much weight in it. always try to take anything that uses phrases like "may have" "could have" and "possibly" liberarlly as lightly as possible

north, was that ms in the US or Europe who got in touch?

North, also interested to know if US or UK.

I am in a similar position as you - parent with 2 young children & xbox console ban since Thurs 08th last week - no idea what we have done wrong, etc.

After several frustrating days, I was able to obtain an email address for Microsoft HQ and emailed them yesteday evening with my concerns on this matter.

    No response to date

    North,

Reading your posts, you previously mentioned downloading the Black Ops new Zombie map pack and speculating whether this could be the cause.

Like you, I have been trying to investigate any possible reasons as to the cause of our console ban.

For your info, our position regarding the Zombie map pack, is that I had promised my two boys they could download the new maps, but prior to the ban they had only downloaded the new map pack video.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,054 ✭✭✭NORTH1

Yep this more then likely my e-mail original used set up the account, the phone numer possible as well I can't remember back that far.

Jeez I haven't been to Russia since the cold war!!

The cause is not the issue here at this stage as Microsoft won't say. If you are 100% sure you have not breached there terms on console bans follow my route. State the Acts that you feel they are in breach of by removing a service you have paid for in advance as I did.

Probably dont look for the writen apology on Boards.ie as the guys here don't seem to like the attention....

But know what you want to resolve the problem in advance.

I'm not at the end yet but its looking good.

its nothing to do with attention north, its more to do with the fact that its a ridiculous request thats never gonna be met, and it harms your credibility asking for it
