Baking has a crust....

    Whenever I bake cakes or bread or buns they always have a crust on top...... why is this?? Is my oven too hot or something....???

    Yes your oven's too hot, or you are putting too much sugar in your recipies. Granulated sugar will usually crust too. Use caster if it's for buns.

    Get a cheapie oven thermometer in tesco or the like, calibrate your oven.

    Oh and always bake in the center of your oven! Too high and it'll crust on top too!

    If none of those tips work the element in your oven might be getting slightly too hot, mine does that, so I leave a big baking tray on the top shelf to shield what I'm baking from the direct heat of the element, awkward but works a treat.
