Hi, does anyone know the best place to bring a broken SLR lens?

My canon 450d dropped the other day and the lens broke, is there anyone in louth that does repairs? Or knows of someone that can do them.

Ive gone into Mahers chemist in drogheda but am still waiting on a quote.

Any info would be great, thanks.

tbh, I think you'd be better brining it to one of the specialist camera shops in Dublin. You'd get a better turnaround time and would probably be cheaper.

If you're looking for a temp replacement, I'm selling a 35-80mm on adverts at the moment for €40. It wouldn't replace a 18-55mm but would do if you're going to be stuck without one.

Do ya have it up for sale? Don't see it there.

There's a user on here who does repairs, called Zerohamster. He posts in the photography forum a fair bit.

Personally, I wouldn't bother bringing it to a local store, as you're just bringing an unnecessary middle-man into the equation. Contact Canon directly.

If it is the 18-55 kit lens that you dropped, then I'd just buy a new one. If it's the non-image stabilised version, you could pick it up second hand for about €50-60 I'd say. If it's the IS version, then I'd say you'd get it again for €100 or so second hand online.

The main problem with contacting zerohamster, is that I bought the camera from him not a week ago. :o

Id be too ashamed to contact him....

Surely that's more reason to contact him!?

True. It was his back up camera and i had it 24 hours before someone picked it up and the strap got caught on the sofa and fell lens down.

Just randomly came across this when searching for something else.
Sorry to hear about the camera dropping but you should have given me a shout and see if I could help :S

The body should be undamaged if the lens took the fall as the 50mm f/1.8 usually absorbs all the impact and breaks leaving the body in good shape especially if dropped from a small height.

If you can get the lens down to me (post?) I could see if I can fix it up for you without parts for free as that is just so unlucky to have had it fall after only having it for 24hours.

Yeah the body is grand, not a bother on that, the lens is in 2 bits, the top element came away for the rest and one of the clips may have broken.

Sorry i didnt contact ya about, felt too bad. :o

Ive left it on with a camera shop in town, still waiting on estimate for the reapir.

When i get it back and if it doesnt cost a lot to fix ill give ya a shout and ill get it posted to you. That ok?
